24.01.2022 Tax tip: Do you have a negatively geared investment & have employment income? Further, would you prefer your tax refund slowly released during the year rather than a lump sum refund at the end of the year when you do your tax return? A "Pay As You Go Withholding Variation" maybe just what you are needing to help with your cashflow. This is where a form is lodged with the ATO to advise them what your taxable income is estimated to be for the coming year versus what your regular payroll info is. Based on this, the ATO contact your payroll department to advise how much to reduce your PAYGW each pay. Need more info? Please call LA Accountants 0479 160 009.

24.01.2022 This recommendation just posted to our FB page has filled my cup. Thank you so much Toni, it was an absolute pleasure working with you. Helping people with all things tax, accounting & business is what I live for

23.01.2022 We may kick ourselves when an opportunity passes for not being brave enough, or not having the funds to jump on it, or not enough staff to accept the work or was not good enough at closing the deal but at the end of the day............

23.01.2022 One thing I'm seeing so much is people missing out on a potentially higher tax refund because of no receipts. Here's some solutions: download the ATO app take the photo and throw the receipt away have a "special place" like the car glove box a go to draw in the house or a box that you can throw them in.

22.01.2022 Here is the latest snap shot to the 2nd of August of the COVID-19 Superannuation Early Release Scheme. 3 million first time applications have occurred to date plus 1.1 million that applied for the second round. It will be interesting if there is a big upsurge in the next coming weeks due to the Melbourne lock down and what the long term effects are.

19.01.2022 Thinking of starting your own business?

19.01.2022 Business tip: I used to have a massive fear of public speaking, so in 2019 my NY resolution was to join Capalaba Toast Masters Club to face the fear head on. Luckily, Shirley a dear friend, wanted to give it a go too so needless to say, 12 months on we both came out transformed people. How? Being supported by mentors with flare and exceptional ability, feedback after each speech plus a safe environment to be vulnerable. Could Toastmasters help you professionally or personally this year?

19.01.2022 The first tranche of Job Keeper ended on the 27 September. To receive JK from 28 September, eligible employers need to assess their decline in turnover with reference to their actual GST turnover for the September 2020 Quarter (for JK payments between 28.9.20 - 3.01.21. Three questions must be asked: 1. Is my business eligible? 2. Am I or my staff eligible? 3. what rate applies?

19.01.2022 Jobkeeper 1.0 ends 27.09.2020 with new eligibility criteria in place starting on the 28.09.2020. This will see some existing employers in Jobkeeper 1.0 pushed out of the system and some that did not qualify up until then entering into the program. TIP: Businesses please make sure your accounts are ready for BAS as soon as after 30.9.2020 to see if you qualify.

18.01.2022 SMSF question: Can my Self Managed Super Fund invest in crypto and gold bullion? Answer: Unless it is specifically prohibited in your SMSF trust deed, then Yes you can! [Trusts Act 1973 (Qld) s21]

18.01.2022 LOSS CARRY BACKS FOR COMPANY'S Another way the government is trying to get cash back into the economy quicker for qualifying small business. See our blog: https://laaccountants.com.au//loss-carry-back-for-company-s

16.01.2022 Business owners who use a vehicle for work purposes need to keep one of these logbooks for 12 weeks which will remain valid for 5 years. Even if your company or trust owns the vehicle, it is still equally important. If there happens to be a personal use component on that company or trust vehicle then Fringe Benefit tax (FBT) will be factored in by your accountant. A logbook along with you keeping tax invoices gives your accountant more options to explore for getting a better tax and FBT result. You can get these from a news agency for around $5.

15.01.2022 June BAS is due tomorrow if lodging through a tax agent. Please call if you need help.

14.01.2022 Redlands Coast Life Business Directory are offering 12 months free advertising due to Covid.

13.01.2022 Business Tip: Do you need Cyber Insurance? Most businesses hold private information on clients with much of this information stored digitally. As such, there is always potential for a cyber breach. Worst case scenario being a ransom request demanded in exchange for restoration of data. The insurance covers the funds needed in this case. Everyone from hairdressers and physios, to corporate giants are at risk. Check with your Insurance broker if you are covered or need to be.

12.01.2022 Employers: Have you updated your payroll software or processes to reflect the updated tax tables? Remember you must be withholding the correct amount from payments you make to employees by 16 Nov 2020. Check out the updated tax tables at www.ato.gov.au/Rates/Tax-tables/

12.01.2022 SMSF - an SMSF will need to have an audit once a year when the auditor will check that the transactions are compliant and checks over the financials and tax return. The audit cost usually ranges from $440 for a simple fund to $770 for a more complex fund. The cost of the audit and accounting fees is paid from the SMSF bank account. LA Accountants uses a third party Auditor based in Brisbane who is a breeze to deal with and we do all the liaison so you don't have to worry about this step.

08.01.2022 Tax cuts are coming our way from the 2020 Federal Budget and should be felt in our pockets in a couple of weeks time. For example, a single person earning $120,000 will receive a tax cut of $2,745 in 202021, compared with 201718 settings. A dual income family, with both income earners on $60,000, will receive a combined tax cut of $4,320 in 202021, compared with 201718 settings.
