24.01.2022 Something for all of us to take note of, with our members being from many different nations.
24.01.2022 Look at what was trying to get out of the side of one of our garden beds. It reminded me of a baked chook and weighed about 2.5 kgs. I could not believe that it actually tasted really good inside and was not woody at all. I have sweet potato recipes lined up for weeks now.
23.01.2022 Spring colour at Labrador Community Garden...
22.01.2022 The results of our last Working Bee has provided us with increased water storage for our potting area. The relocation of the Greenhouse from under the awning provides a great place for seedlings, cuttings, etc to grow. The whole area is much more workable and user friendly.
19.01.2022 Who's ready to tether the horses?? No, it's only the poo required here. Brann has been busy building a couple of pens.
19.01.2022 I never cease to be amazed by the amount of animals and bird life we have at the garden. Last week I saw ducks down the back after the big wet. Now, would you believe we have two guinea pigs living in the bush next to us and coming over whenever they feel like a nibble. It looks like it is Mother and baby. I hope they leave some food for us....
16.01.2022 Labrador Community Garden now has a dedicated soil bay. This will help contain our 10 cubic metre soil deliveries and eliminate weeds and grasses growing up from beneath. Also easier to get to that last wee bit of great garden mix soil!!!
15.01.2022 I did not realise that our small green frogs like to camouflage themselves on the dragonfruit too. We find a lot of them in our water bins.
14.01.2022 The swamp hens from the bush next door have had four little baby chicks. They have been in our garden looking for food for their little ones. They have been feeding their little chicks the nut grass seeds from our lawn. I wondered why there was a mess in that area. They also have been pecking at someone's watermelon.
13.01.2022 Sunday 4th October was a Working Bee day at our garden. Much thanks to all who participated with the redesign of our potting area behind the main shed. Donated 1,000 litre water tanks installed, shelving reconfigured making the area more open and accessible.
12.01.2022 Nearly stood on this snake yesterday in the garden. He came out while I turned my back and was gone again in a flash with a little lizard in its mouth. What a shock I got!
10.01.2022 A great day at our working bee today! The last of the unproductive Dragon Fruit has been removed. Many thanks to Toni, Ben, Adrian, Irene, Emma and Henry. Extra thanks to Henry, Ben and Adrian for taking all to the tip. This area is now ready for a make over!!! The verandah was also cleaned of unsightly muck and now looks spick and span... Many thanks to all our gardeners. We are a power when we get together!!!
10.01.2022 This was delicious. Wilted bok choy leaves with roasted beetroot, goats cheese and fig balsamic chutney. I am finding lots of different ways to use up my bok choy.
09.01.2022 These are the cutest plant ties I have ever seen. I wonder which plant in my garden I will use them for.
04.01.2022 I wonder if this would work at the garden.
03.01.2022 Caught these cheeky Cockatoos eating Marigolds this morning. Perhaps a few windmills, old cds or silver water bladders hanging in your garden may deter the voracious invaders from devouring your vegies!
02.01.2022 How about the inflight sausage sizzle??
