25.01.2022 The Board and staff of Newcastle Greyhounds would like to acknowledge the recent passing of industry stalwart Gerry Lee. Whilst a long time GBOTA member, he was probably best known at The Gardens as "the bagman" for popular bookmaker Graham Walshaw. As a trainer, he was also successful as can be seen below celebrating the win of Lady Cynthia in the Ladbrokes Red Dog final on 2019 Black Top night. Lady Cynthia had 12 starts at The Gardens for 8 wins. To all family and friends of Gerry, we offer our heartfelt condolences.

18.01.2022 From this Tuesday 12th October, the private trials will come forward 1 hour and begin at 7.00am. Also, from Monday 2nd November, the public trials will go back 1 hour with puppy trials from 5.30pm and regular trials from 6.00 pm. Please feel free to share.

Unfortunately we need to have our last trial at 7.15pm and as a result, we have decided to start our puppy trials at 4.00pm and our normal trials from 4,30pm to 7.15pm. 16.01.2022 A note to advise that membership renewals are now due for 2021. Cost is $12.00 for existing members . New members are $50.00 which includes 2 years membership and a club polo shirt. All financial members also receive 2 free trials per month. To use these trials, please advise track staff prior to trialling once booked online. The Board and staff would like to thank everyone for their support and patronage during a difficult 2020 and look forward to this New Year.

10.01.2022 Newcastle Greyhounds would like to acknowledge Kearsley trainer Ron Lambert who passed away last week. A trainer for over 60 years, Ron was one of the first trainers to be contracted to the Canidrome Racetrack in Macau in the 1980s. More recently, Ron was a great supporter of The Gardens where he had a lot of success with his good mate and owner Ted Ciszewski. Probably their best was the fast early bitch Virouette, who began her career winning a heat of the Laurie Healion maiden at The Gardens, and by the end of her career, she had won 17 races, including 8 wins at Wentworth Park. To Rons family and close friends, we offer our sympathy and thoughts.

10.01.2022 Today saw the running of our latest Ladbrokes Monthly bonus race, a 5th grade 515m event. The winner was the John Miles trained Not Today in 29.76 sec with a margin of 3/4 length over Rose Of Lachlan. The win took the record of the black daughter of Keybow & Black Eva to 9 wins and 4 placings from only 14 starts. Not Today was the 2nd leg of a race to race double from the in form kennel of John with Lately winning in 15.23 sec over the 272m in the previous race.

06.01.2022 A reminder that from tomorrow nights meeting you must sign into the track using the Service NSW app. Once you have downloaded the app and signed it, you check into the track by opening the COVID check-in tab under tools. This will then allow you to scan the QR code and follow the prompts. When leaving the track you just also check out using the app. This is a legal requirement of the NSW Government.

03.01.2022 The Hunter region and surrounds will be well represented in next week's semi finals of the TAB Million Dollar Chase. One of the hopefuls, the Darryl Thomas trained Xerri stretched his legs in a final hit out at Ladbrokes Gardens today. Going around in a stewards trial, the Blue son of Fernando Bale and Miss All Class ran a fair 5.03 first section, but then really wound up running 17.15 down the back and then home in a very nice 12.10 for an extremely quick overall time of 29....25 sec, just .09 sec outside the track record. With the current career figures of 12 starts for 6 wins and 3 placings, Xerri has run quick times at several tracks including 29.38 at The Gardens, 24.89 at Maitland and 29.62 at Wentworth Park which will hold him in good stead next week. The other Thomas runner in the semi finals is Whitfield, a lightly raced litter brother to Xerri who has won 6 races from only 10 starts. Darryl also trains Sergis from the same litter who has won 4 from 5 starts and did train the ill fated Coniglio who was owned in the same interests as Xerri. Kevin raced his dogs with the "Kiss Me" prefix and bred last years Gardens GOTY Morse who to this day has won 36 races for trainer Sue Smith.
