24.01.2022 Bank Australia has supported our Step Up Latrobe Valley program since its establishment. This week, we caught up with George and Nicole from Bank Australia to plan the online financial literacy session that will be delivered to our program 10 participants. Ladder is very proud of this partnership and grateful to the Bank Australia staff who have come on board as 1:1 mentors for our program participants and also volunteered to assist with the delivery of program sessions.
24.01.2022 Jacqui was referred to the Ladder Step Up Latrobe Valley program by a friend. Once she met with the team and heard more about the program, Jacqui knew it was right for her and signed up straight away. Despite experiencing a number of challenges during her time in the program, Jacqui remained dedicated and graduated last month. To recognise her commitment, Jacquis Development Coach presented her with the award for most resilient participant! Congratulations Jacqui, we hope youre very proud of this wonderful achievement.
24.01.2022 We are proud to welcome Collingwood Football Club player, Max Lynch as our newest AFL Players mentor. Having grown up in Albury, Max understands what its like for young people growing up in a rural community. After engaging with the Latrobe Valley program over the past 12 months, Max decided he wanted to support a young person as a 1:1 mentor. Max was recently matched with Jake, a participant from our Step Up Latrobe Valley program. They have already started to discuss steps to progress Jakes goals and are looking forward to getting to know each other better!
24.01.2022 On Friday Step Up Sydney celebrated NAIDOC week with a screening of In My Blood It Runs documentary. After the film, the young people shared their own reflections and experiences.
23.01.2022 Its been two weeks since the launch of the Ladder Step Up Online program and AFL players have been supporting our team with program delivery. Max Lynch (Collingwood Football Club) spoke to young people about maximizing online engagement and finding an appropriate study space, while Easton Wood and Mitch Wallis (Western Bulldogs) spoke to the group about teamwork and communication. We also welcomed Taylor Duryea (Western Bulldogs) who presented on independence and what it means to him. Our program participants loved hearing from each player and how Ladder program content is also important to them as AFL players.
23.01.2022 Our Step Up Latrobe Valley young people ended their program with a high, climbing Mount Oberon at Wilson’s Promontory National Park. The group used what they had learnt throughout the program, showing resilience, working as a team and maintaining a positive mindset.

19.01.2022 Yesterday staff and young people from Step Up Latrobe Valley completed their first aid training. It was a long day, with a lot of content but they remained focused, positive and asked a lot of great questions! To top it off they are now certified first aiders.

14.01.2022 Bank Australia Acting Area Manager (Gippsland), George Zammit, was recently mentor matched with Ladder young person, Owen. Owen has been a committed member of our online program 10 and quickly identified that he would like the support of a mentor. During their match meeting, George was able to support Owen to identify some goals, including setting up Owens first bank account. At only 16, Owen is one of our younger program participants in Latrobe Valley, but has already identified a long-term goal to join the Australian Army. He hopes that as his mentor, George can provide some guidance and support to develop key life skills to better prepare him for life in the defence force.

10.01.2022 One of the highlights of the Ladder Mentoring Program is when we hear stories of flourishing mentor and mentee relationships. Ladder mentee, Jeremy (pictured) graduated the Ladder Step Up Latrobe Valley program in late 2019 and has since been working full time at a Gippsland nature and ski resort. In February his mentor Scott, took the time to travel from his home in Melbourne up the mountain to visit Jeremy at work and for one of their regular catch ups. Scott remarked to t...he Ladder team that it was very rewarding to see Jeremy maintaining his employment, particularly given the recent economic downturn, demonstrating his value as a dedicated and enthusiastic employee at Mount Baw Baw. We were rapt to hear Scott talk fondly about the suitability of this work for Jeremy, while also keeping his long-term future in mind and discussing other opportunities Jeremy could explore further down the track. Great work Jeremy and Scott!

08.01.2022 The Victorian Government has announced that every young person in out-of-home care will now receive support up to the age of 21. Previously young people have had to exit the out-of-home-care system at 18. We know the importance of supporting young people to transition to independence. Mindfulness has shown to improve wellbeing in lots of ways including reducing stress, improving memory and aiding emotional regulation. 05.01.2022 Meet Tyson. Tyson has been a pleasure to have in program 13. He engaged incredibly well in all Ladder sessions, even if the content was not the most interesting for him. He gave the program his all and being respectful and supportive to his peers. A big highlight of Tyson’s time at Ladder is his caring nature, it was amazing to see the compassionate and support he provided to his peers over the six weeks of program.
