07.01.2022 A little Taj History Lesson ~ 1st Portrait is of the Great Shah Jahan He was given his princely title on January 1628 under the regnal title "Shah Jahan" Although an able military commander, Shah Jahan is perhaps best remembered for his architectural achievements. The period of his reign is widely considered to be the golden age of Mughal architecture. Shah Jahan commissioned many monuments, best known of which is the Taj Mahal, which entombs the love of his life, his wife... Mumtaz Mahal ~ He had planed to build a replica of The Great Taj in Pure Black Marble facing her across the Yamuna River ( can a man be anymore romantic ?!) Unfortunately his son prevented this dream, worried his father would have dwindled the families fortune ~ Later in years the Shah at the age of 74 passed and was also laid to rest beside his beloved wife inside the main building we all know as the Taj Mahal 2nd portrait is my personal favourite of his wife Mumtaz Mahal Over the years I have purchased a few vintage paintings of the Royal couple ~ Maybe we can help you select one for your collection ~ See more
