25.01.2022 This weekend our Senior Ensemble and Orchestra were in Perth for the Lado and Friends concert, celebrating the beauty and diversity of Croatian culture and tr...aditions. Hosted by Lado Croatian Folkloric Ensemble of Western Australia at the Octagon Theatre, we were joined by CFE Koleda Sydney, HFS Lenek Adelaide and HFG Zagreb Perth in showcasing songs and dances from all corners of Croatia. Our orchestra had the mammoth task of accompanying many of the concert pieces, which combined all singers and some additional musicians to sing and play in unison. After one rehearsal together, we are proud to say that this was a job very well done! The concert left many in awe of the love and passion with which we do our thing. After a hard days work, we headed back to the Croatian Club in North Fremantle for a well-deserved after party. Hard to say what the highlight of the night was, but a singalong which incorporated all groups as well as Mr Zoran angut, Consul of the Republic of Croatia in WA and Her Excellency the Croatian Ambassador Betty Bernadica Pavelich Sirois, who travelled from Canberra for the concert, definitely set the tone for the night. Never tiring, our musicians pulled out their instruments once again, joined by some musos from the other groups, to play a set of our most loved Croatian (zabavne) songs. The dance floor was bursting, hearts were full and voices unfaltering. It is for this togetherness, this sense of belonging, for the love and joy and passion that this brings, that we Do what we love and love what we do! We are infinitely lucky and grateful for our Croatian heritage and are so proud that we are keeping it alive despite being so far away from our ancestral homeland. A very big thank you to Lado Perth for the invitation and to all groups who participated to make this weekend a most memorable one. To our president Vesna Grgic, our hard working committee and teachers, thank you for your organisation and preparation which allowed Lado Geelong to put their best foot forward. To our performers, with a special mention to our musicians, thank you for your commitment and positivity at rehearsals which lead to a stellar performance. You have done Lado Geelong proud! We love our Lado family!

22.01.2022 Our friends at HFS Lenek Adelaide have been sharing their excitement on their Instagram profile with videos of their rehearsals and costumes all neatly packed and lined up, ready for their journey to Perth in a few days. The Croatian folkloric ensemble Lenek was first formed in 1978. Leneks first performance was at the Adelaide Festival Theatre performing for HRH Queen Elizabeth II. In 2018, Lenek celebrated its 40-year anniversary. They continue to preserve Croatian cultu...re and tradition by performing to the Croatian and wider Australian communities, at weddings, functions, multicultural events, festivals as well as interstate events. Lenek is able to display and preserve the Croatian culture through its range of beautiful traditional costumes, handmade by members of the Adelaide-Croatian community or sourced throughout various regions of Croatia, making Lenek home to the largest collection of Croatian folkloric costumes in Australia! In 2019, Lenek consists of more than 60 dancers of all ages and will always be committed to teaching its youth the traditions of the Croatian culture and language. 13.01.2022 Klapa Kaliterna are so new on the Croatian 'klapa' scene in Australia that they didn't have any pics that we could share with you. So we decided to go one better... we recently sneaked into one of their rehearsals and captured this raw footage. Klapa Kaliterna was formed in early 2018 by Denis Padovan together with like-minded friends who have a love and appreciation for klapa singing. Klapa singing is a form of traditional a cappella singing in Dalmatia, Croatia and the ...word klapa translates as a group of friends and traces its roots to littoral church singing. This style of singing is one of the most rewarding things any singer can aspire to and is revered throughout Croatia and the wider Croatian diaspora around the world. The klapa consists of Denis Padovan, Damir Andrijich, Stanko Panic, Ante Andabaka, Zdravko Andabaka, Ivica Glen Svilicich, Peter Blinky Bell, Glen Golik and Jerko Radic. Last weekend groups from all around Australia were meant to come together in Adelaide for the second event to be hosted by HFS Lenek Adelaide and then COVID-19 happened. Our Lado members are excited to be travelling to Adelaide on the same weekend next year to continue the celebrations - bring on 2021 - we can't wait! 08.01.2022 The first Australia/New Zealand Croatian Women in Leadership Summit was held in Canberra from 15 November 2019 to 17 November 2019 as a joint event of Australia...n Croatian Chamber of Commerce NSW (ACCC) and Croatian Embassy in Australia. Thank you to H.E. Ambassador Betty Pavelich and Sonja Palic from the ACCC Board for bringing this event together and connecting everyone from all the states across Australia and New Zealand. We listened to the key note presenters, including QLD Commissioner of Police Katarina Carroll and Chief of Protocol at DFAT Kate Logan (both of Croatian heritage) as they shared stories of success and their challenges. We extend a very big thank you to our fellow folkloric ensembles and performers for coming together to help us make a dream turn into reality HFG Zagreb, HKUD Lado Geelong, HFS Lenek Adelaide Koleda CFE, Klapa Kaliterna and Branko Lovrinov. Everyone put so much heart and soul into their presentations and performances it was beautiful to see. This inaugural event was the first under the banner of the Croatian Folkloric Arts Festival Australia which has been created to unite us all and keep our culture alive so that future generations can continue the tradition that we all love so much.
