May this day bring you the blessings of love, peace and hope Its a perfect time to remember the famous Faberge Eggs, the ultimate achievement of the renowned Russian jewellery house. Even today many Easter gifts are inspired by the century old creations. The Hen Egg (1885) became the first in a series of more than 50 jewelled eggs made by the artisans employed by the House of Faberge. ... The Hen Egg was ordered by Tsar Alexander III for his wife Maria Feodorovna as a traditional Easter gift. The egg had a few surprises hidden in it, the first being a yellow gold yolk. Inside the yolk was an enamelled gold hen that held a replica of the Imperial Crown with a precious ruby pendant egg within. The Tsarina loved the egg so much that Alexander III, asked Faberge to create a unique egg with a surprise every Easter thereafter. Amber is a fossilised tree resin - the original resin came from ancient pines that grew about 40-50 billion years ago!
