25.01.2022 Winston you are too cute!!

24.01.2022 Sensory Bins! Sensory bins offer great opportunities to target early language, imagination, play, engagement, fine motor skills and sensory regulation. Most of all, they are fun! Why not make a sensory bin with your child this week? ... Add 1 cup of rice + tsp of vinegar + your choice of food colouring (you may like to multiply this ratio to make more). Mix with a spoon or in a zip lock bag. Leave to dry on baking paper or a tray before transferring to a container. To make multicoloured rice, simply make different batches of your preferred colours and mix together once they are dry. Some objects for your sensory bin could include: - Your child’s favourite characters or figurines - would peppa pig or bluey like to explore the rice? - Measuring cups, spoons, bowls, tongs, funnels. - Vehicles. - Animals. - Dinosaurs. - Letters. - Spelling words written on paper. - Puzzle pieces. Let your child’s imagination go wild - maybe they would like to hide and dig for objects, pretend to cook, engage in pretend play with animals or their favourite characters or perhaps they would like to make some alphabet soup. If your child is old enough to help you with making the rice, this is also an excellent task for following instructions, retelling steps and expressing preferences such as what colours they would like. Of course, we would recommend careful supervision when using these with your younger ones!

12.01.2022 Washing stations are a great way to target early language, attention, play and fine motor skills. Why not create some muddy animals or a car wash for your child this week? What you will need: ... - Tub of water (filled half way) you may like to add some bubbles too. - Brushes, sponges, clothes, spray bottles, tea-towel. - Plastic animals, vehicles, dinosaurs or characters. - To create mud (optional) you can use cocoa and water, coffee grinds, shaving cream or even Vegemite! If you have any questions about how you can incorporate your child’s specific goals into this activity, feel free to reach out to your child’s therapist.

08.01.2022 Slow it Down is a fantastic website developed by Sesame Street that contains a range of calming activities, breathing exercises and music! We also love the traditional Sesame Street website that's full of educational games that are great for supporting language development. 06.01.2022 Is your little one returning to face to face sessions over the next few weeks? . . Sometimes change can be hard! We have developed a social story about coming back to Ladybug House to help prepare our clients for this change. . You can download the social story by clicking the link below. Once you have printed the story, you can fill in the gaps to make it more specific to your child. You can write your child's name, who they come to therapy with and who their therapists ...are. . 01.01.2022 I love this!! *This is not meant to be a political post, although I’m sure some will view it that way (which is ok- just scroll on by). Part of what many SLPs ...include in their fluency therapy is a list of famous people who stutter (James Earl Jones, Marilyn Monroe) - because it’s important for kids who stutter to know that they can be smart & successful, and be anything they could dream to be. Representation matters, and it’s so great to see a person who stutters in a job where frequent speeches under pressure (most stutterers’ nightmare) is the norm- and children who stutter can see that and think, I can do that too!. Find out more about famous people who stutter: https://www.stutteringhelp.org/famouspeople
