25.01.2022 I'm running a course on Writing Climate Fiction from 10th-30th May. See below for deets!

22.01.2022 I've started walking to & from work to get fit again, & because the autumnal mornings are gorgeous. The flowering gums are also quite something to behold. Image description: there are two photos. The first is of a bunch of pink gum blossoms surrounded by olive green leaves. The second is of the ground covered in fallen gum blossoms, a little drier and crisper than those on the tree.

20.01.2022 My latest review for Sydney Review of Books is out, this time on Sophie Cunningham's edited collection, Fire, Flood, Plague, and on the disaster (well, that should be plural) that was 2020: https://sydneyreviewofbooks.com/review/fire-flood-plague/

17.01.2022 Huge congrats to @fi.murphy, whose memoir about #deafness was published today! Fi worked insanely hard on this book, & you should all read it.

14.01.2022 ‘Anything that would lead to monitory gain?’ (via Quija board?). These Q&As on the soon-to-be-axed Yahoo Answers are fabulous: https://www.theguardian.com//can-babies-see-ghosts-the-bes

13.01.2022 Last year I was planning to head to a residency at Oak Spring Garden Foundation to write about Georgiana Molloy, but Covid intervened & everything went pearshaped. However, the lovely people at OSGF published some of my work (see below for interview & the piece), & co-sponsors Hedgebrook have very generously honoured the fellowship for when the borders finally open.

10.01.2022 As a Kath and Kim devotee, I think this is awesome.

09.01.2022 This is a brilliant piece of work on Sydney Review of Books by writer & academic Julieanne von Loon about the parlous state of Australia's literary & cultural industry, which is beset by a number of problems, one of which is a lack of political will: 'But perhaps the real problem here is to do with Australia’s broader cultural policy problem. That is, we just have no policy. As with many other sectors in Australia under the Morrison government, there exists a disturbing policy vacuum, and there seems little in the way of political interest or will, with regards to developing and implementing robust policy in the national interest.'

08.01.2022 This afternoon I went to a tour of @samstagmuseum's exhibitions, which was excellent. I particularly loved Fayen d'Evie's works, which centred around tactility, blindness & translation, for eg of the vibrations plants make when attracting wasps. 07.01.2022 I'm feeling pretty crappy that my plans to see my man & Parental Unit at Easter were scuppered, so on the way home I stopped off for a bunch of flowers. Image description: a close up of a bunch of flowers in a white vase, including dark red chrysanthemums, a white dahlia, lilac foxglove and a green, unopened lily.

05.01.2022 I'm part of this very cool symposium about plants, which will be held this Friday. It's free and live-streamed, in case you are at a loose end & wanting to top up on all things chlorophyllic.

04.01.2022 I had a fabulous time at the Clarice Beckett exhibition at @agsa.adelaide with @nestofpages. The layout was gorgeous - arranged according to the time of day - & the paintings were so soft & subtle. I was a bit disappointed that there was no mention of Kristel Thornell's wonderful biofiction about Beckett, Night Street. It made me wonder if curators engage with #Australian #literature as they put exhibitions together? Anyway, it's on until 16th May, so you should try to see it if you can.
