06.01.2022 "Never was so much owed by so many to so few" Who would have thought that this famous wartime speech by the British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill in Augu...st 1940 would still have such significant today. It is almost as though he was speaking of the volunteers from the RFS & SES. Never has there been such a greater demand upon all the volunteers across our great State with so much being asked of them. In addition to responding to what was our core business our volunteers have been playing a big role in other events such as Search & Rescues, supporting other Services with major fires and disasters. NOW our volunteers need your help to continue to respond to incidents in your communities, have you considered joining the State Emergency Service? Some of the roles that SES volunteers undertake are: Flood boat operations (Search & Rescue, resupply and evacuations) Storm Damage response (Temporary repairs to residences) Chainsaw operations First Aid and Welfare Community Engagement/Education Vertical Rescue (not all groups) Road Crash Rescue (not all groups) SES volunteers support other agencies and services such as Rural Fire Service, QLD Ambulance Service and QLD Police Service, in roles such as: Air Base Operations Casualty Handling Emergency Operations Centre Communications Search and Rescue Forensic/Crime scene Searches You don’t need to have these skills already, all training is provided by the organisation to ensure that our volunteers have the appropriate training to safely and effectively respond to incidents within their communities.
