24.01.2022 The increasing number of cases in Sydney is concerning so Ive postponed our return to face-to-face classes to after the October Long Weekend. For more details, see https://bit.ly/3jTYtJX. 23.01.2022 One of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt from 2020 is how important social connection and interaction are to our wellbeing. How we find that connection will vary from person to person. It could be through work, classes, casual meetings, social media, letters, phone calls ... For those who attended Saturday classes at The Epping Club it’s been 9 months since many of us have met or practised in person. So we're gathering for our usual after-yoga coffee this Satuday 12 December.... Contact me if you’d like to come so I can finalise numbers!

21.01.2022 Im up early (for me) and was trying to decide whether to go for a walk or stay in and do yoga. Given that its cold and windy, and I dont fancy changing into shorts and t-shirt, it was a bit of a no-brainerIm staying in. Of course, there was always the third option to remain in bed under the covers! Have a great day!

21.01.2022 Im currently recording my live-streamed community classes and Tuesdays class, being just before Quilas dinner time, meant all through the class she wandered in and out silently lobbying for dinner. Community classes are free and pay-what-you-wish: Guided Relaxation/Meditation, Mondays 1:10pm... Yoga & Meditation Mix, Tuesdays 6pm Book online at lailinyoga.com.au/booknow to join my live community classes (and receive the link to the recordings) or see bit.ly/lly_online for the current recordings.

21.01.2022 Picked up a couple of jars of veges from My Temple Eats. I love the colours and it was so handy for a quick lunch. Just added some dressing and used it to accompany some pan-fried salmon. Yum! #buylocal #localbusiness

20.01.2022 Looks like the weather is in favour of another Sunday morning Modern Qigong practice Here’s a quick snippet. Very quick . In reality this took me 15-20 minu...tes. Details: When: 9.30-10.15am Sunday Where: West Ryde (dm for exact details) Cost: $10 It’s a super accessible and feel good practice. Try it and see

18.01.2022 Normality is the ability to learn by experience, to be flexible, and to adapt to a changing environment. ~ Lawrence S. Kubie What is normal? My normal will be different from your normal, which will be different from everyone elses normal. Its an individual experience.... And although many of us would like to return to normal yoga classes, the reality is that there is a new normality. Im returning to face-to-face classes in the community centres after the October long weekend and will still be offering classes online. The return to face-to-face classes means: Booking your spot before the class because the numbers in classes have been capped Bringing your own equipment Sanitising hands on entry into and exit from the community centres Taking your temperature and registering on the day Maintaining physical distance between mats and chairs in class See the new timetable at bit.ly/lly-classtimes. I hope youll join me in person or online.

18.01.2022 There are lots of opport*nities o*t there. And yo* know what’s missing. ~ Terri Guillemets Opportunities are what U make of them. Sometimes things just fall in place; other times you need to create the circumstances to achieve what you want.... As we move into the Christmas/New Year period and classes break for the year, why not take the opportunity to try something new? I finally attended an in-person qigong class (instead of going online), am planning to check out a local tai chi group and looking forward to some time to explore yoga practices for myself (especially restorative practices) and complete my accessible yoga training. Is that too much? We’ll see ... It might be a lesson in letting go of expectations!

17.01.2022 Last week I started searching online for reusable face masks because Hubby and I frequently visit his mother to help out and there is a growing number of coronavirus cases in the area where she lives. I wanted to purchase masks from a not-for-profit but due to limited time, I started searching for information on making masks. Now Im no seamstress but, through trial and error, I managed to create this hand-sewn, three-layer fabric mask with a filter pocket.... If youre interested in purchasing a mask where the proceeds help indigenous or new migrant communities, or would like the instructions for my face mask, see my latest blog post at bit.ly/33gTmxC If you are more proficient with a needle and thread or have a sewing machine, it probably wont take you long to make a mask. But I must admit, I found the process quite meditative as I sewed into the early hours of the morning.

17.01.2022 As I said in my Sunday story, singing while Im moving must be good for me. Right? After telling Anna at Square Box Fitness that Id done @emkfits Mamma Mia HIIT hop on Sunday (https://youtu.be/ABLpnwJKabc), Anna surprised me (and everyone else) with an ABBA-inspired workout track for todays circuit class. Inspired some new arm movements (on my part) to go with the reverse and side lunges and some hip sways between exercises.... For me to be consistent with my fitness routine its so important that I find something that I enjoy! What about you? Thank you Anna for todays class. Im certainly getting my ABBA fix.

16.01.2022 Did you know that the Yoga & Meditation Mix community class is an integrated class? Options are provided to let you work from the mat or the chair. Yoga & Meditation Mix, Tuesdays 6pm, Online through Zoom. Book through lailinyoga.com.au/booknow to attend the class or receive a link to the class recording.... See bit.ly/lly-online for the last month of classes.

16.01.2022 It’s been a long, fitful night of sleep. Hubby rushed Quila up to the emergency vet last night and we lost her early this morning. It’s only just starting to hit me that our feisty Senior has gone. No more assistant to help me demonstrate puppy and dog poses, no video-bombing my online classes, no more coughing or scratching into the microphone while I’m guiding meditation, and no more chasing her off my yoga mat and blankets.... Miss you Tequila (Quila)!

15.01.2022 Looking back at where we were a year ago ... we were staying in Wisteria Cottage, Tapitallee with three bushfires nearby.

15.01.2022 Can you feel it? The feeling that the world is stirring as Spring arrives? I started yesterdays classes in a T-shirtthe sun was out and it was warmbut Mother Nature soon reminded me that life is always changing. I was back in long sleeves and trackie dacks by mid-afternoon and huddling by the heater!

15.01.2022 The weather forecast is for more cold weather but there are signs that Spring is on its way. Have a great weekend! #weekendvibes

14.01.2022 I wore my homemade mask (instructions in my blog post at bit.ly/33gTmxC) for the first time today, wearing it for three hours while I shopped. Verdict: I used a folded tissue along the top of my mask and it helped stop my glasses fogging up. It was really hot but given the three fabrics I used (reusable shopping bag, lycra and cotton) I think thats to be expected.... My voice was quite muffled. I felt like I was speaking quite loudly to be heard. Im going to see if I can add a nose wire (Ill use a twist tie or take one from a disposable mask) because with the tissue the mask felt like it was slipping. If youre trying to make one size fits all, I think ties will be better than ear loops. I felt like the ear loops needed to be a little tighter to fit my face. Looks like Ill be spending the weekend looking for wire to use for nose wires!

13.01.2022 Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us. ~ Maya Angelou This Saturday is the last of our Saturday Crew classes for the term.... After that were going to take a couple of Saturdays off to rest and to decide how we will proceed. If youd like to join us online this Saturday, book at lailinyoga.com.au/booknow or contact me. Saturday Crew Yoga Saturday 29 August, 9:00-10:00am $18 Feel free to stay online afterwards for a chat!

10.01.2022 Varietys the spice of life, isnt it? Roslyn (Body By Design) and I are proposing another term of online Saturday classes and Deb (Yoga Delight with Deb) is joining us. Three teachers, three different styles! WHEN: Saturdays 19 September-28 November (excluding the long weekend, 3 October).... Yoga class from 9-10am. Optionally, stay online after the class to catch up with everyone. WHERE: Zoom meeting. Access available via web link, the Zoom app and via phone call (although dialling in is audio only). COST: $110 for a term pass. ($18 for casual). For full details, see The Saturday Crew Yoga Classes at Lailinyoga.com.au/events. Join the Saturday Crew and enjoy the variety of classes and company.

10.01.2022 It’s time to rest and recharge! I’m taking a break to prepare for Christmas (*fingers crossed* that this COVID cluster is contained), and rest and recharge for the new year. Classes will resume on Monday January 11 with a cut-down timetable (see bit.ly/lly-classtimes).... Enjoy the break and time with family and friends.

10.01.2022 It’s the last week of classes and we’re moving towards the New Moon, a time for reflection and relaxation. After such a stressful year, that’s exactly what a lot of us need! Join me in this last week for classes of gentle, mindful movement and lots of restorative yoga! ... The last classes for the year are this Thursday 17 December. I have online and in-person classes. Book your spot at lailinyoga.com.au/booknow.

10.01.2022 A nose wire definitely helps keep my glasses from fogging up! There are many people, much more proficient at sewing than I, who are making masks. My Aunt purchased this cotton mask for methree layers, nose wireand my glasses didnt fog up during the fortnightly shop. So grateful to my Aunt and to all those who have shared their skills to create masks for the rest of us. I definitely need to add a nose wire to my handmade masks but now I have a little bit of time to work on them.

09.01.2022 Trust the wait. Embace the uncertainty. Enjoy the beauty of becoming. When nothing is certain, anything is possible. ~ Mandy Hale Uncertaintythe bane of planners lives, planners like me. ... COVID and lockdown are teaching me a hard lesson in how to be patient and to go with the flow. And this time has also brought with it new opportunities to explore and develop, new ideas for classes and (finally) time to be still and think (and plan ). How has this time been for you? A time of rest or activity? Reflection or stress? Or maybe a jumble of everything?

09.01.2022 Although there is further easing of COVID-19 restrictions, Im erring on the side of caution and am keeping my classes online for July and August. The Saturday Crew Yoga & Chat will remain online until we transition back to face-to-face classes at @levelonefitnesstheeppingclub. Community classes are free or pay-what-you-wish, and are being recorded for those who are unable to make it at those times.... Book your spot now at lailinyoga.com.au/booknow. See lailinyoga.com.au/general-classes for descriptions of the classes. #lailinyoga #onlineyogaclasses

09.01.2022 Tuesdays community class, "Week 4: Release" is now available on YouTube. https://youtu.be/jaaYCTvZhi4 The Yoga & Meditation Mix runs on a four-week cycle: three weeks asana-focused, fourth week of relaxation/meditation so were back to a relaxation and meditation class next Tuesday. #onlineyogaclasses

08.01.2022 The recording of last Tuesdays Yoga & Meditation Mix class is now available: https://youtu.be/U0bC4ljC30I. Unfortunately the microphone was playing up and I ended up with only video. I recorded another set of instructions but, of course, mouth movements and words couldnt be synchronised.

08.01.2022 To be beautiful means to be yourself. You dont have to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh I was watching a video about accessible yoga and found myself pondering over the comment about how marketing and social media have shaped the way people think and how, even though we know yoga is accessible to everyone, we can get caught up in comparisons.... Ive started recording my community classes to make them available for a wider audience and yet I was hesitant to do so. I hate seeing myself on video, the mess in my loungeroom from the previous class and the little dog wandering in and out. Yet, thats what is happening right now. I dont have a clear area where I can practise and teach my yoga. Ive blankets covering the windows, a friend practising (almost) out of frame and a curious dog who coughs, wants to be fed and is not happy that Ive taken over her rolling on the carpet area. The first community guided relaxation and meditation session is now available at bit.ly/lly_online. Join me for live streamed free and pay-what-you-wish community classes on Mondays 1:10pm AEST and Tuesdays 6:00pm AEST. Get the details when you book your spot at lailinyoga.com.au/booknow.

07.01.2022 Technology! Sometimes the low tech way works best. Yesterday one of the ladies in my class lost sound. Everyone else could hear except her.... So I tried the Zoom chat and she missed the message. Then I sent a text to her phone. Again she missed it. I ended up writing a message on a whiteboard and holding it up to the camera! #firstworldproblems

07.01.2022 Tomorrow’s (Thursday's) classes are the last for the year with additional time put aside for restorative. And don't we need it?! 10:00am AEDT Online Seniors/chair-based class 7:15pm AEDT General yoga class @ Epping Leisure & Learning Centre... Book your spot at lailinyoga.com.au/booknow.

06.01.2022 Christmas gives us the opportunity to pause and reflect on the important things around us - a time when we can look back on the year that has passed and prepare for the year ahead. ~ David Cameron Every year I give my students a small thank you gift with a quotation attached. This is the quotation I chose but didn't have time to include. It seems so apt after the year we’ve had.... Hubby and I have been working on our Christmas newsletter (a great way to reflect on our year) and we truly have been fortunate: we, our families and friends have remained safe and healthy; we’ve had space to live and work; and we’ve kept busy. This new outbreak is concerning but we’re keeping busy preparing for what might be a very different Christmas. Last week Hubby spent time in meetings with a friend who lives in the hotspot area so we’re waiting the outcome of his friend’s COVID test and minimising our physical interactions with others. Hopefully this means we (and many other Sydneysiders) will be able to enjoy Christmas with our families!

06.01.2022 Another article related to the "awe" walks - just 15 minutes a day. Have you had your does of awe today?

06.01.2022 And thats a wrap! Ive started recording my free and pay-what-you-wish community classes and spent the last couple of nights editing and posting them to YouTube at bit.ly/lly_online. Book at lailinyoga.com.au/booknow to join me for the livestreamed classes: Relaxation/Meditation, Mondays 1:10pm AEST ... Yoga & Meditation Mix, Tuesdays 6pm AEST If those times dont suit, still book a spot and Ill send the link to you when the recording is available.

05.01.2022 Always remember outer ability does not equal inner peace. ~ Jivana Heyman from Accessible Yoga: Poses and Practices for Every Body Ive always believed that yoga was accessible and am constantly exploring different ways to present poses.... Yet, in the flurry to move online, I forgot what drew me to yoga in the first place - that feeling of ease in my body and peace of mind. And thats what Ive been enjoying with the Accessible Yoga coursethe opportunity to delve into roots of yoga, to step back and reflect on its essence and how it can apply to us today. Im so grateful that the Accessible Yoga training is now available online. Im still not far into the course but I love the flexibility afforded to me. The ability to go at my own pace and press replay has been invaluable. Thank you @accessibleyoga.

04.01.2022 Have you tried an online yoga class? If you have, did you enjoy it? If you havent, whats holding you back? This is my online setup. My tablet is the camera recording me and showing me what my students see. My laptop shows everyone in my class. Everyone can hear everyone else but each person can choose to hide or mute themselves.... This setup lets people talk throughout the class and, depending on the angle, lets me provide individual guidance. Would you like to try an online class with me? See my timetable at bit.ly/lly-classtimes or message me! #onlineyoga

04.01.2022 I wasnt sure about this but I ended up posting a homework assignment online at my YouTube channel: bit.ly/lly-online. What was suppose to be a 15-minute chair yoga warmup is just over 20 minutes after editing! You might need to turn the volume up or display captions ... Ive noticed I dont talk clearly or loudly when Im nervous and especially when Im teaching to noone except a camera. But I like the introduction to tools and how they can be used to ensure comfort and sta...bility. Its not perfect (which is what feels so irksome to this perfectionist) but maybe its just right for you. Chair Yoga Warmup: https://youtu.be/8jL9RoJGwPg If you would like to join me for an online chair-based class, consider one of my Seniors/Chair-based classes (Mon 10:30am, Thu 10:00am) or the Community Yoga and Meditation Mix (Tue 6:00pm). More details: bit.ly/lly-classtimes

04.01.2022 Its wild out there today! Perfect weather to zoom in for an online classes. Will you join us? See bit.ly/lly-classtimes for my class timetable.... Have a great week!

03.01.2022 You never know what you might find if you just pause awhile. Its a beautiful day here in Sydney. Get outside and enjoy the weekend.

03.01.2022 R U OK? This year has been mentally tough for many of us. The pandemic has meant that many of us (especially those who dont have access to technology or are not au fait with it) are isolated and our mental wellbeing is shaky. So, reach out to someone who is isolated or struggling. Connect. Listen.... Are you OK?

02.01.2022 Yesterday I set myself up for a restorative pose and a short sound bath meditation. Given that I’d only had 3.5 hours of sleep, it wasn’t surprising that it turned into a nap. Restorative seems to be what everyone needs after a tough year. So over the next fortnight I’m moving into gentler movements and ending my classes with a 15-20 minute restorative pose. Come and relax with me! See bit.ly/lly-classtimes for my timetable.

02.01.2022 "Theres more to say ..." :-)
