22.01.2022 2800 trees planted. Ready for the rain!

22.01.2022 A recent revegetation project in the Obi Obi Creek Catchment. The 1 Ha site will grow into a 600 m riparian buffer, that will support biodiversity and help protect water quality in the Obi Obi and ultimately Lake Baroon. Riparian vegetation filters runoff from the land, minimising nutrient and contaminant load from agriculture and urban sources. The transformation of the site began with the mulching of weeds, redefining of the drainage line, preparing the site for planting, and the final photo shows the site after 2800 locally native trees have been planted. All of the work has been undertaken by local contractors, with the plants sourced from Barung Landcare, Noosa Landcare and Brush Turkey Enterprises.

22.01.2022 Last week local contractors completed planting 2800 trees in the Obi Obi Creek catchment. The planting will create a wildlife corridor over 600 m long, that will link directly to Obi Obi Creek. In time the planting will provide habitat for wildlife and aquatic species, maintain stream bank stability, increase oxygen levels in the water, and help prevent nutirents and pathogens from entering the waterways, ultimately assisting improve the raw water quality of Lake Baroon.

21.01.2022 Last week the LBCCG Management Committee and guests visited one of our project sites on lower Obi Obi Creek to view recent and upcoming works. This 115-hectare property is being restored to provide water quality, habitat and wildlife benefits. A big job that will take many years to complete, but will provide numerous great outcomes.

20.01.2022 We had a very special visitor to the office today, Bandy bandy (Vermicella annulata)

18.01.2022 Off Stream watering is part of LBCCG's Dairy program and has multiple benefits; Providing cattle with a consistent clean water supply, Reducing the amount of time cattle spend in riparian zones which decreases degradation to the area and improves water quality.
