25.01.2022 While we’ve had a relatively mild summer, the risk of grassfire is still very real If you live next to grassland in an urban area and a grassfire starts, wal...k at least two streets back from the fire. On days of elevated fire risk postpone paddock work where possible and avoid using machinery in dry grass

24.01.2022 The Royal Australian Mint has today launched a commemorative $2 coin to honour those who battled the horrific 2019/20 summer bushfires, recognising the determin...ation and commitment of our firefighting communities across Australia. 20.01.2022 If You See Something, Say Something! Whether recklessly or deliberately lit, bush and grass fires have disastrous consequences. It is a criminal offence under ...Victorian law to cause a bushfire/grassfire recklessly. Recklessly lit fires such as failing to properly extinguish a campfire is a crime that carries severe penalties. Other reckless behaviour can include disobeying restrictions relating to total fire ban or fire danger periods, leaving campfires unattended, burning off without a permit, or using hot tools or machinery that emits flames or sparks on total fire ban days. People who commit bushfire arson are not always strangers, they often live and work in local communities. 20.01.2022 Firearms Amnesty starts today - Hand Them In Victorians in the state’s North West are being urged to hand in any unwanted, unregistered or illegal firearms th...roughout November as part of an amnesty. The amnesty, which commences today 1st November, allows members of the public to surrender firearms and weapons to a LICENSED FIREARM DEALER or their local police station in the Mildura, Ouyen, Merbein, Red Cliffs, Swan Hill, Gannawarra and Buloke police service areas, WITHOUT FEAR OF PROSECUTION. This follows on from firearms amnesties that took place throughout November and December last year and March of this year in other divisions across the Western region, including Horsham, Ararat, Bendigo and Macedon Ranges. It is important that people ring their local police station before bringing items in. All firearms must be wrapped in paper, plastic or cloth and transported to a police station in a safe and secure manner. Anyone who has a registered firearm can hand the item to a Licensed Firearm Dealer AT ANY TIME for sale or destruction. The penalty for possessing an unregistered firearm starts from $19,800 or two years imprisonment.

18.01.2022 Planning a backyard BBQ this sunny weekend? If your BBQ has been in hibernation over winter, there's a few simple safety checks you'll need to do before firing it up... (or you might end up with more than a few burnt snags).

17.01.2022 Do you know the difference between a Total Fire Ban and the Fire Danger Period? There are different restrictions that apply in the open air on days of Total Fire Ban and during the Fire Danger Period. Understand the difference between the two to avoid penalties. Total Fire Ban (TFB) Total Fire Bans are declared by CFA on days when fires are likely to spread rapidly and be difficult to control. Fire Danger Period (FDP) CFA declares Fire Danger Periods by municipalities in... the country area of Victoria during periods of increased fire risk. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrictions/can See more

14.01.2022 Will Your Heating Be Safe This Winter CHECK YOUR HEATERS TO AVOID FIRE RISK As the cooler weather approaches, here are some precautions that you can take to pr...event the potential for your heating to cause a fire. To avoid carbon monoxide poisoning and reduce the risk of fire, make sure you have your gas heater serviced by a professional at least every 2 years. Make sure your wood fired heating is free of build-up and obstructions and have you chimney cleaned annually. ALWAYS make sure you turn heaters off before leaving home or going to bed and never leave portable heaters unattended. Interconnected smoke alarms, located in all living and sleeping areas of the home, can save lives in the event of a fire. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/fires-in-the-home See more

08.01.2022 REQUEST TO STOP HARVEST THIS AFTERNOON CFA District 18, Acting Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Rob McNally has asked farmers in the Mildura, Buloke and Swa...n Hill Shire areas and the Northern part of Yarriambiack Shire to refrain from harvesting between 1pm and 7pm today 27/11/20 and Saturday 28/11/20. He said today and Saturday would see fire danger ratings of very high and severe across these areas and harvesting in these conditions would bring with it a risk of damage to headers and crops. "We've had a number of fires started from headers during harvest, and a number of haystack fires," he said. "Tomorrow is going to be just as hot if not hotter, but we've got a cool change coming through with a south westerly, which will increase our fire risk. "We also ask that farmers refrain from conducting harvesting work between 1pm and 7pm on Saturday and monitor your haystack temperatures. If a fire starts, the wind will change the direction of the fire. Cooperation from our farmers in the District to help prevent fires is greatly appreciated.
