25.01.2022 With all this rain about i thought it a good opportunity to take a look at Faust and its land based fishing. I found the fish sitting along the bank were the wa...ter was slightly discolored from it running in. I managed two fish around the 90cm mark in around half an hour both of them caught using HappyRock Maxx soft plastics lightly weighted with just a slow steady retrieve. This size barra put a great fight with plenty of jumps and runs Just keeping in mined that the only land based fishing allowed is from the boat ramp back around past the picnic area. Also anyone over the age of 18 fishing will need a SIPS. Cheers,Geordie See more

22.01.2022 Cracking little freshwater Barra caught by Phil on his new Shimano Taipan Dash rod. Thanks for the feedback mate. Hi mate, If I didnt stop in yesterday & pick ...up the little Shimano Taipan Dash stick & a pack of Yum Frogs, theres no way I could have caught this barra! They were tucked up tight in heavy cover & being land based, I had to be able to cast from in amongst some really thick viney scrub. The 4ft, 5-10kg rod is perfect for this style of fishing & the frogs rigged weedless means you can flick them right up under those overhanging trees where these guys are waiting to ambush prey. Cheers, Phil. See more

22.01.2022 Wow... its really coming together at Lake Proserpine/Peter Faust Dam. Pontoons starting to be put in place beside the ramp and near the existing amenities bloc...k. New BBQ also being put in place. Great effort by everyone involved. This is something that the region has been calling out for for a very long time. Its great to see this finally being delivered. The whole place is really starting to look fantastic. The upgrades to the facilities that are currently taking place will certainly turn Lake Proserpine into a wonderful land based destination in our wonderful region. Photos from this afternoon. New Amenities block under construction, also the pontoons being put in place and a few of the surrounds that are really looking good. Thanks to Andrew Willcox - Mayor, Whitsunday Regional Council and my fellow councillors for continuing to make this a reality. See more

20.01.2022 Heres some information from Minister for Transport and Main Roads, The Honourable Mark Bailey that should clear up some confusion. Fishing and essential boat u...se to continue Queensland boaties can still take their boats out locally to fish or travel for essential reasons. Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey clarified the rules for boaties as the evolving COVID-19 response restricted a range of activities. If you own a boat and want to head out in the water in your local community to fish for food this weekend, you can, Mr Bailey said. If you need your boat to travel locally in your community, you can still do that. If you want to head out on your kayak or stand up paddle board for exercise, you still can. State Government boat ramps will remain open to boaties. We want people to continue living their lives as normally as possible under the current circumstances, but the advice of the Chief Health Officer needs to be followed." 20.01.2022 So proud to announce that as of Friday afternoon you can officially camp lakeside at Lake Proserpine!!! Free camping kicks off at Lake Proserpine Pack your swag... and snag a barra! The upgrade of recreational facilities designed to activate Lake Proserpine are underway with the free 72-hour lakeside camping facility being available from Friday afternoon. Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Andrew Willcox said he was very proud that Council had worked hard to negotiate a lease with SunWater and was now delivering the exciting Lake Proserpine Barramundi Fishing and Recreational project. The lake has untapped potential to be an international drawcard for anglers looking for the ultimate fishing experience and offers the best chances of landing metre plus size barra anywhere in Australia. Fishing is the largest driver of domestic leisure tourism nationally and we aim to cement Lake Proserpines reputation as the Heart of Barra Fishing, Mayor Willcox said. This project will help the Whitsunday region capture a greater share of this market, with Stage 1 including a pontoon, new carparks, toilets and showers, a washdown facility and free camping. Our ultimate aim is to make Lake Proserpine a tourism hotspot and fishing mecca nationally and internationally. Deputy Mayor John Collins said Council had developed a clear vision for establishing and improving recreational and tourist facilities at Lake Proserpine and had proactively leveraged external funding opportunities. The Lake Proserpine Master Plan is an exciting step toward making Proserpine an even stronger regional town within the Whitsunday region. The free camping at Lake Proserpine opens just in time for the long weekend. This is just the boost Proserpine needs as this investment in infrastructure means more jobs for our community. The extra toilet block and shower camping amenities are currently under construction so RVs and campers utilising the area will need to be self-sufficient or alternatively, the existing amenities to the north of the camping area can be utilised. Works on access upgrades and the construction of three pontoons are also on track for completion before Christmas. Page 1 of 2 Other works underway include resurfacing of carpark areas and line-marking, new BBQ areas, extra bins and concrete slabs are soon to be replaced in the recreation area. Further site developments to enhance the area will continue in early 2020 including the addition of wash down bays for vehicles to mitigate the risks of spreading mimosa pigra. 19.01.2022 Brand new never been in the water.

18.01.2022 Quick update on the Lake. Ive been out for a couple of quick recces to get ready for the upcoming charters. Things have been a little tough due to the cold and the short windows of light winds. As usual for this time of the year its not too hard to find the fish but getting the good bites can be tough. By the numbers Im finding in the 80 to 90cm range I think therell be some fun times ahead as usually through the August /September you often find patches of these sized fish. Ive got a few in the shallows but more working through the tops of the trees with the good old Barrabaits. This method always works well when the fish are a bit slow, but you really need calm conditions to do it well. A couple of pics of the school sized fish from the deeper trees.

18.01.2022 Did another quick recce on the lake Sunday. Nice clear weather but had that cool southwester most of the time we were there. Im really not a fan of southwesters and the shallows were pretty quiet. There were a few fish on the sandy humps but they werent really interested in eating lures. We scouted around a bit and found a bay where I marked a school of about 20 or so small Barra holding in the creekline. We pushed further up in the bay and worked our way back out. I got c...leaned up by a good sized fish on a Zerek Swimming Mullet, its was all over pretty quick when he gill raked through the 80lb leader just after the bite. Not long after Matt hooked this cracker in a really tight area and in typical Faust style the fish did everything he could to get stitched in the timber. Thankfully everything held together and we eventually landed the very solid 99cm fish. Good work Matt. Im thinking Ill be spending a bit of time in that bay over the next few weeks. See more

16.01.2022 With the Covid stuff going on I thought it was as good a time as ever to give O'Fishal Business a facelift. Got to get her ready for the charter season ahead once the restrictions are done and dusted. The Nitro has been a fantastic boat but the years of being in the sun have taken their toll on the carpet and seats. I'm recarpeting the main decks and using the EvaTread from the guys at FibreFinish in the cockpit area. I'm doing the majority of the work myself with Mark at Eli...te Marine Trimming giving the seats a once over. Removing the old carpet and glue was a bit of a challenge but with the help of a couple of mates, thanks Dario and Toddy the decks have come up a treat and are ready for the new coverings. Thought i'd attach a few pics and to show the progress of the project. Ill throw up a few more pics as we go. See more

10.01.2022 Had a great trip up Proserpine and Airlie Beach the last week. Had a trip out with Lindsay Dobe from Barra World charters at the start of the week and he pu...t us onto a couple of meterys. Well worth booking if youre in town Had a great time with all my clients I had for on water training. Got to see a few of the beautiful waterways up there and a couple of the local goannas as well. I stayed with a good mate of mine Steve who looked after us like a champ. We snuck out to the dam a couple of nights for some great topwater bites but got a bit unlucky with staying connected. Spent today out in perfect weather around the islands. Had a massive Coral trout around 80cm come out and belt my swimbait off a big bommie only to have Steves reel I was borrowing lock up and strip all the main gears mid fight and then got dusted back into the reef. Spent the rest of the day up in 1-2ft of water chasing Blueys. Had a shot at at least 15 fish but couldnt get them to commit. Was an awesome experience still getting up close and personal with some absolute horses. I wish I had a couple more days to to stay up and fish the area. I might have to make it an annual "work" trip. Big thanks to everyone who did the on water training, appreciate all your great feedback. Got an upgrade to the front of the plane on the way home so a good finish to the trip, now cant wait to see my girls. Time to get everything sorted for my Sydney trip at the end of April. If youre in Sydney or Central Coast area and would like to learn how to get the most out of your marine electronics send me a message for details and availability. Cheers Nick.

10.01.2022 Charters available 7 days.

04.01.2022 Whose New Years resolution was to fish more? Heres to great fish in 2019

04.01.2022 It’s been a bit of a windy cool full moon period but the Barra’s are still pretty hungry. You know they’re on when you look for your lure and find a few boneys still kicking in their gob. The Zerek 5.5 Live Mullet was top lure for the night. No surprises there, it matches the bait real nice I reckon.

02.01.2022 Great news today for The Peter Faust Dam/ Lake Proserpine. Council awarded the tender for Jetty and pontoons as part of the Lake Proserpine Recreational Facilit...ies upgrade. Andrew Willcox - Mayor, Whitsunday Regional Council and I met with the Minister Dr Anthony Lynham on June 16th last year at Lake Proserpine to announce the handover of facilities to Whitsunday Regional Council from SunWater. Theres been a lot of behind the scenes work that has gone on since then, including Lease negotiations and of course a lot of work by Andrew and Council Economic Development staff chasing grants to help make this project a reality. The facilities are finally starting to be upgraded and the future proposed Camping Area starting to be cleaned up, theres been timber piled up and ground slashed. Shelter sheds have started to get cleaned up and rendered. The toilet blocks are going to be having a good tidy up. A good coat of paint and things are going to be looking pretty good. Its all coming together nicely, many thanks to all Council staff involved in getting it to this stage. See more
