16.01.2022 David & Amie had a great time catching Barramundi recently. David emailed his story and photos to us. Big congratulations to you both and thanks for sharing. Before coming to Callide we had only caught 1 barra each! Needless to say we had an absolute blast and certainly will be back. It was our first morning on the water, I was throwing squirrels into the timber as I know they are an effective lure. We were slowly moving up toward a likely looking snag. I casted my lure in ...and worked it back as usual, on the pause it was annihilated! I saw a huge flash as the fish rolled quickly after the hook set in. Seeing the large sized flash I was delighted when it swam away from timber toward the middle of the dam. It jumped wildly trying to throw the lure. At this stage I had only caught one other barra of around 60cm, knowing how rare it is to catch a metrey I unconfidently called this one to be a metrey. During the usual to's and fro's of gaining line, losing line, my FG knot gave way, I was heart broken.....I've tied countless FG's and caught many fish before, WHY DID IT HAVE TO SLIP ON THIS BLOODY FISH?....it just wasn't meant to be. Feeling absolutely distraught I ponded if another one of my lures would ever swim past a metrey again? ....I picked myself up and less than 5 casts later my lure was smashed again!! This time the fish was smaller. After seeing and calling my last fish for a metrey, when I saw this one I thought it'd be around 65-70cm- as it was much smaller than the first. The battle wasn't quickly over as it jumped and pulled line on several occasions. When I saw how big it was in the net I thought to myself maybe I'd underestimated it's length. It measured in at 94cm! An absolute donkey of a '2nd ever barra' caught during the first 30mins of fishing. However this does beg the question and still hurts me to think about....how big was that first barra I lost? It made this 94cm giant look much much smaller.....It was certainly over 1m...probably over 110cm maybe even 120cm? Later that night a 10y/o boy from Mitchell QLD landed a 119cm...There are absolute monsters in there, I cannot wait to be back to try it all over again The biggest was Amies 100cm! See more

16.01.2022 Congratulations Roamin, and thanks for sharing
