06.01.2022 It was a very BIG day for us on Australia Day, on Tuesday, and we would love to thank Revive Lake Cathie for our nomination together with Leslie Williams MP and Guy Duckworth (Acting District Manager AFSM) for supporting the nomination. The acceptance speech from Captain Chris Brown went a little like this -> "On behalf of Lake Cathie Rural Fire Brigade, we thank you for our nomination, we have been humbled and very honoured, by the people who thought we were Community Grou...p of the Year in the Port Macquarie Hastings area. Our brigade takes their volunteer roles with great pride and community spirit. In recent times, the community saw us just doing our job, during the most severe fire season we have ever experienced, but there is so much more to being a wonderful community brigade. Most of our members donate years of their time before seeing a fire season of such epic proportions. The everyday member puts in time with training, community engagement, fundraising, Fire Station maintenance and the upkeep of our other assets so that we are ready when the pagers go off in the communities’ time of need. These volunteers commit to continuous training and upskilling in their free time. Some of our favourite activities supporting the community don’t involve fire at all. We all love the Santa run at Xmas where we give out lollies to all the kids from the fire truck; we love chatting with people in the community to assist them to get ready for an upcoming fire season; each year we do traffic control for the Ironman and cheer the cyclists on all day. We cannot carry out these roles without support from our workplaces, families & donors. Our Brigade has been so thankful of the wonderful community, who during the last 18 months have really shown some amazing gratitude towards not just our little Brigade, but to the whole New South Wales Rural Fire Service, it has been terrific, and has been a wonderful example of the Aussie spirit and I hope our newest citizens here can get to experience that spirit. We are truly honoured to have received the award, especially with the calibre of fellow community groups that are standing by our side here this morning. I think all the nominees should be proud of the work they have done to get here. Thank you". NSW Rural Fire Service - Mid Coast District See more
