22.01.2022 The Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail is a circuit starting in Aramac (about 70km north of Barcaldine) but is also accessible from Jericho. You can travel the loop eith...er way and it covers a distance of approximately 200km. The Trail features more than 35 sculptures along the loop with more sculptures being added each year so keep your eyes out for new additions. The sculptures are the works of a local sculptor, Milynda Rogers aka Scrapmetalsheila who resides on a grazing property along the trail and decided she needed a platform to display her work. The result is one of the biggest, permanent, outdoor sculpture exhibitions in the world. 18.01.2022 It started as one woman's pledge to make a country road more interesting for the local school children and has grown into the largest free-to-the-public sculptu...re trail in the world! And now, after two years of yearning, we've completed the last two-thirds of the Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail. After doing the first third of the loop and then staying at the wonderfully relaxing Lake Dunn campground, the gravel road south guided us to 28 more incredible sculptures by the Scrapmetalsheila, Milynda Rogers, and - as an unexpected bonus - through some extraordinary landscapes. The mind boggles at the challenging and surprising locations of a few of Milynda's pieces. You often need to look up. Don't dismiss trees or escarpments. And I dare you to go the loop without chuckling! It's simply not possible thanks to the likes of Side-show Bob from The Simpsons (the original piece on the whole loop), a goanna riding a bike, and Where's Wally. There's too many to show here, so get out and Experience Outback Queensland, Australia when you can. It really is incredible that one woman's kind-hearted, neighbourly gesture has evolved into 40+ artistic treasures on permanent display for everyone to see. We have a theory: If we can experience something in a large front wheel drive motorhome not built for off-road trekking, then everyone else can too. It's a theory that will serve others well once again because we merrily trundled along this final 130-km section out from Aramac, in the Barcaldine Regional Council area. It took us six hours. Yes, we go super slow on corrugated sections, giving us the opportunity to really savour the experience, breathe in the surroundings and talk to the animals along the way. I swear, some even talked back. Another about-turn, another well-earned Wellshot Hotel - Ifracombe, Queensland stay, another delicious meal and then onwards.... 2020 Awards now open. 17.01.2022 Who's getting excited for the NRL coming back on May 28?! Did you know the outback has it's very own JT statue? ... Not too far from Julia Creek - The Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail, northeast of Aramac has over 35 unique sculptures! 17.01.2022 So where have we been chillen for the past few days???? The peaceful place of Lake Dunn Lake Dunn is also known for Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail and what a great e...xperience this is for all. Not sure who had more fun us or the kids . You will find roughly 40 sculpture along the circuit, we picked up a map from the Barcaldine info centre which gave us a list of the sculptures to find. Allow 4 to 5 hrs to complete the circuit and be sure to take some lunch. Along the way there is also 2 heritage stops Grey Rock- this was a stopping for the Cobb and Co in the 1870s. There once originally stood a hotel, all that is left there now is broken glass. You will find large sandstone rock that has been carved with names from the various travellers who have stopped by. Horsetails Gorge - makes for a good lunch stop. This area was used as a stopping point for drovers. It is the way the side of the gorge is formed that kept the drover's horses from wandering off at night. Unfortunately we didn't make it to the Healing circle but we will definitely be back and that will be the first on our list to do. CAMPING We choose to base camp ourselves at Lake dunn it's self, and so glad we did! Very low cost camp with a lovely view of the lake. $10 unpowered site or $15 powered site - At the end of each day, a lovely elderly lady named marge from the station will come and collect you nightly fees. The kiddies loved her, she even took them for a little ride on her cart. Hot showers and flush toilets, I would say they are kept clean. There is cob webs and spiders but aye your in the bush that's what its all about! Tap water available Full 4G reception at the showers and toilet block. It has a radius of 500m but can be picked up further. Fires are allowed We opted for unpowered and put use to our lithium battery system setup and solar to keep us up and running. Plus I personally think the unpowered sites give you more privacy and a better view of the lake. BONUS! 17.01.2022 So happy to have received a bronze award for best sculpture trail in Australia it all helps to get the word out to people to make our community a destination to visit

11.01.2022 There’s a great write up about the region in the latest caravan world with mention of the Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail, so great to read about it.
10.01.2022 It’s hard to believe how popular this trail has become I am just happy that it helps in some way to attract travelers here it’s great to know that it is appreciated.
10.01.2022 She came 60 years ago to marry the love of her life, following him from the town of Aramac onto a remote cattle station that you could only reach along 64 kms o...f thin rutted track that ran through bush. Marj still lives at Lake Dunn, smiling broadly when asked if the Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail has made a difference to the number of folks she sees on her early evening rounds to collect the fees from campers. "Yes, they come from all over now." And yes, of course she knows the sculptor who created the trail, Milynda Rogers, who also lives along the 200-km loop out from Aramac and back. We've only completed the first one-third of that loop so far - we've waited an three extra nights in the area to ensure the road edges were dry enough to pull off after recent storms (front drive moho does not like slippery road verges!). It was so worth the wait, and we spent a delightful two hours safely stopping and starting on the sealed road that finishes near the lake. And what a beautiful lake! It's 3.5 km long and 1.6 km wide when full. Marj's family have generously opened it to public access with support from the Barcaldine Regional Council. There's a brick amenities block, picnic shelters, seats plus powered sites all along the lake for just $15 pn. If you don't want power, internet connection or toilets then hand over $10 and spread out to enjoy the isolation. That peaceful solitude is one of the things that Marj has come to love. She then nods sagely towards the lake and offers "Water level is low - in the worst floods it comes up here where we're standing and when it's completely dry, we drive straight over the lake from here." Locals reckon that trip will be possible by Christmas unless the region gets rain in the next couple of months. A 'dry Christmas' has different connotations in these parts, as it will make it a very hard summer for everyone and everything that relies on the lake's life-sustaining waters. Oh Mother Nature, you surprise, delight, terrorise and torture, but what would we do without you? 2020 Awards are open, including a station and farm stay category. 08.01.2022 Beautiful mornings
08.01.2022 So as I mentioned previously on the Easter weekend we headed off to Aramac and the Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail. There is plenty of information that you can get b...efore you go, but I will admit we kinda "winged in" (pardon the atrocious English). From leaving home to finishing the trail was about 6 hours, which ties in with what we have read about the trail. The trail itself is approximately 200 km long, but it never felt like that. According to the map (which I found at home when we got back) which is available at the local Tourist Information kiosks and online (https://www.barcaldinerc.qld.gov.au//lake-dunn-sculpture-t), there are 40 sculptures and, considering we went sans map, we only missed 3 of them. But that is not a bad thing as we want to go again anyway with different camera lenses. With thanks to Barcaldine Regional Council the roads are pretty good, mostly dirt but almost all was well graded, and you would have no trouble going out in a standard car. There are a couple of extra historical sites (Gray Rock, Horsetailer's Gorge, Healing Circle and Lake Dunn), unfortunately entry to the Horsetailer's Gorge had been extremely badly dug up with someone getting bogged. We had so much fun driving around, we really appreciated this tour making us stop and smell the roses (albeit dusty ones). Finding sculptures, hopping out to stretch our legs and take photos, lots and lots of photos. With special thanks to https://scrapmetalsheila.com.au who has made this such a momentous thing to come out and do in our (current) little corner of the world
07.01.2022 We have found ourselves in Muttaburra, Queensland. This lovely little town of outback Queensland is known for being the centre of QLD and the home of the Muttab...urrasaurus! Our 2 boys have been waiting for many weeks now to see a Dinosaur! That day came today, when we checked out the life size replica of the Muttaburrasu at the interpretation centre. They were over the moon and found it very hard to contain their excitement! We also found barb the Dinosaur made by the same artist who created all the sculptures on the lake dunn trail. #australiandinos #muttaburra #centreofqueensland #outbackqld #explorequeensland #travelaustraliawithkids #travellingaustraliawithkids #8feetmakingmemories #muttaburrasaurus

06.01.2022 Mayors Diary for Sunday 9 August Well this was the week for regional meetings, with all the Mayors of the RAPAD Region and their respective CEO’s gathering in ...Barcaldine from Monday through until Wednesday for several meetings. Monday started with a meeting of the Central West Pest Management Group with updates received on projects underway across our region and a call out for identified projects for next year to be brought forward. We were also fortunate to have the board of the Central QLD Regional Development Australia in town for meeting and presentation to RAPAD, along with a briefing from Senator Susan McDonald on federal issues. Lovely dinner at the Country Motor Inn for RDA Board Members and RAPAD Directors. Tuesday commenced with our Regional Road Groups and Sewerage/Water Alliance Meetings. Of note for our area was an ongoing project to upgrade the telemetry and control units connected to Water Supply Assets and the identification of the Barcaldine Aramac Road as the next project for TIDS funding when BRC’s turn comes next for significant dollar investment in State Roads. The RAPAD Board continued to meet until late afternoon when we broke for a meeting of the new Board of Red Ridge, a terrific regional arts initiative that is really achieving big things for the emerging art scene in Australia. BRC & GBA hosted the RAPAD & Red Ridge Boards for Dinner at The Globe, which consisted of a perfect meal prepared by Cheryl Thompson and her amazing team. Wednesday saw the conclusion of the RAPAD Board Meeting with a teleconference with the Premier relating to the closure of the Border with NSW and ongoing COVID 19 matters. Wednesday night I attended a meeting of the Alpha Rodeo Association to discuss events moving forward. Thursday worked from the home office, preparing for the upcoming review of the Procurement Policy. Friday was in Alpha (after a nice little dust settling shower of rain), inspecting the Alpha Showgrounds facilities with a view to future expansion requirements and participating in a range of Zoom teleconferences as well as inspecting the works to revitalise the original Alpha Cemetery. Saturday my wife and I attended the funeral of the late Peter Gleeson, a true gentlemen and legend of the district. Sunday was quiet in anticipation of a busy weekend ahead, late notice for Aramac but I will be in town tomorrow for a few hours to inspect a few facilities if anyone would like to have a chat please give me or the Aramac office a call.

03.01.2022 Coming soon to Aramac looking at a May drop off all going well
02.01.2022 Road tripping way out west is wonderful so far. We have woken up in Muttaburra today and it is wild and windy!! We spent yesterday driving the Lake Dunn Sculptu...re trail. Artist Milynda Rogers has created pieces from scrap metal that have life and character. It is truly an amazing thing to see. The surrounding country is bare, barren and unforgiving but so beautiful. We will be touring around Muttaburra today before heading back to Aramac for an arvo photo shoot and then back to Barcaldine for the night. Kim Logan Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail
02.01.2022 Every day people do amazing things just like Sammy who ran round the entire sculpture trail in four days, what an effort.
01.01.2022 Visiting Muttaburra today which is 120 km north of Longreach. Muttaburra is famous for cattle and sheep grazing, the Muttaburra-sorus and is exactly smack bang in the middle of Queensland. And also I’m very proud to represent the community in the seat of Gregory.
