25.01.2022 'Where the journey leads' by Jeanne Melville was exhibited at the Lake Grace Regional Artspace in The Alternative Archive - Only Hospital For Miles exhibition e...arlier this year. "I’ve used the idea of a ‘charm bracelet’", says Jeanne, "as a vehicle to allow the viewer to contemplate what might have been. Small metal charms with windows, doors, photographs, patched and sewn up pieces, forgotten stories and imagined faces are there to encourage the viewer to engage with the Lake Grace Hospital that was." Media/Materials: copper, brass, nickel, aluminium, metal wires, mica, resin, fabric, paper and rusted paper. Dimensions: Approx. 900mm x 900mm. 16.01.2022 5 workshops 3 days 1000 kilometres ~ It has been an epic few days travelling through the Wheatbelt kickstarting community photography projects in Merredin, ...Southern Cross and Lake Grace including two school workshops. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Window to the Regions Project is more than a photography project. It is a way for rural community to connect and to look at their environment in a new light (quite literally!). To learn something new, feel inspired, meet new people and learn about photography and storytelling. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In Southern Cross the first photo story I presented was about a sheep dog called Trigger. THAT’S MY DOG!!’ cried lady sitting in the room with excitement. ‘We bred that dog here in Southern Cross and sold it to Glen in Boyup Brook!’ **lots of laughter! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CONNECTION There are such a variety of people and stories around regional Australia and it’s a joy to encourage people to capture and share them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thankyou to CBH GROUP for supporting this project and to all the community members helping round up community and organise venues. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Watch this space.... many stories to come! . .
