25.01.2022 We would like to wish all our valued customers, family and friends a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you all for your continued support throughout 2019 From all the team at Lakeland Roadhouse

24.01.2022 Ok time to put all the social media hype, fake news stories etc to bed. Yes the NPA, like all remote communities, has restricted all travel into the area and on...ly essential services such as medical personal etc are allowed. This area mentioned is from the Jardine River north. This is to assist in restricting the movement of the current virus. Due to the poor health of the majority of people living in communities, this virus could have a major impact on the population. For the record we have been working in remote communities for over 5 years and are currently in a remote community in the NT which also has restrictions. How long will this last, who knows, but the more restrictions put in place the quicker the virus will run its course and hopefully everything can get back to normal. The recent article from Unsealed 4x4, saying the 2020 Cape season is closed is absolute rubbish and typical of the crap being put up on social media. We are still months off when most people start heading up, until we hear any further updates, the Cape is not closed for the 2020 season. Lastly, we are seeing alot of racist comments due to the restrictions put in place. Could members please report any racist comments to admin. We do not need these members in the group.

23.01.2022 "Nice to know that Cape York is not part of Queensland." Far North Queensland tourism operators are "ecstatic" about restrictions easing but the Cook Shire Mayor is not so impressed.

19.01.2022 CORONAVIRUS CAPE YORK TRAVEL RESTRICTION UPDATE: Further to the earlier post about personal travel on the Cape, additional information is now available followin...g a Cook Shire Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) meeting this afternoon, in conjunction with Wujal Wujal and Hope Vale LDMGs. From 5pm today, Queensland Police Officers are stationed on the Mulligan Highway at Mt Carbine to provide the travelling public with information about access to the Cape and the Bloomfield Track is closed at Emmagen Creek. The LDMG resolved to recommend to the District Disaster Management Group (DDMG) in Cairns that Cook Shire residents may freely return home until 5pm on Wednesday 25 March. As this arrangement is yet to be approved by the State, we suggest that residents return home as quickly as possible. At this time, it not known what further arrangements will apply after 5pm on Wednesday. Additional information will be provided to residents as soon as it comes to hand. Please continue to monitor Council’s Facebook page and website for the latest information and advice about Covid-19 and personal travel on the Cape

12.01.2022 The Cape York biosecurity lockdown has been lifted (as of midnight 11/6/2020) but while it may be a relief for locals it’s not the good news tourists were hopin...g for... - Tourist travel will not be allowed into Cape York. - Cape York residents will be allowed to leave the area and visit the cairns local area and return without requiring a 14 day isolation. - The Cook Shire Mayor, Peter Scott, has suggested the next expected date for a change in the rules or possibly lifting the lockdown is the 10th of July.

12.01.2022 While the State Government will ease many restrictions in Queensland from midday, Monday, 1 June (see the below roadmap), Cape York remains a Designated Biosecu...rity Area with travel restrictions in place. If you travel outside Cook Shire and wish to come back, you must meet entry requirements (available at www.cook.qld.gov.au/coronavirus) and entry is not guaranteed. The State Government has announced a three-stage lifting Designated Biosecurity Area entry restrictions, with the first to allow those returning to self-isolate in their homes. Stage Three removes the entry restrictions completely, however Council has not been made aware of a timeframe for the implementation of Stage Three. Council and the Cook Shire Local Disaster Management Group will continue working to increase government awareness of the pressure these restrictions are placing on Cape residents, and the urgent need to ease them for medical, economic and social needs. 04.01.2022 TRAVEL RESTRICTION UPDATE - The Australian Government has extended the emergency provisions of the Biosecurity Act to September, but travel restrictions for ent...ering the Cape York Designated Biosecurity Area may not be in place until that date. The Queensland Government is working on a plan with councils who are within the Designated Biosecurity Area to enable a staged lifting of restrictions when it is safe to do so, in a way that minimises the risk of COVID-19 for remote communities. The timeframe and restrictions may vary between communities. Community members are currently able to travel up to 150km from their home, for recreational day trips, but if they travel outside their designated biosecurity area they will have to meet quarantine requirements to be able to return. Further information is available on the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships website datsip.qld.gov.au/co/travel-restrictions-remote-communities See more
