22.01.2022 Some of you may know that our Accounts Officer Matt is leaving us next month for greener pastures. While he will be missed it has opened up an opportunity for a new challenge to a suitably qualified person looking for a part time role. If you feel like this could be you, click the link below, submit your application, or pop in for a chat. The job is open for 2 weeks so don't hang about waiting to apply.

22.01.2022 Round 2 Mens Pennants All in all it was a disappointing week for our Men’s pennants teams but there was a strong performance from our Division 6 side whilst there were also strong individual performances in Division 2 and from Matt Clune with a resounding 9&8 victory. Division 2... A close match for our Division 2 team with most matches going down to the wire, eventually going down 3-4. Daz McLoughlin put up a great performance with a 6&5 win to make it two wins from two for him. Ally Bell also won his second match whilst Matt Nelson joined the winners list for the first time. Division 4 Not a day to remember for our division 4 side with our boys outclassed by a strong Lake Karrinyup outfit. Well done to Andrew Bleakley who halved his match ensuring we got at least half a point on the board. Division 6 Much better news coming from our division 6 boys who continued their strong start to the season with a narrow win in a really tight contest against Sea View. Trevor Beazley, Matthew McLoughlin, Darryl Hawkey & Larry Florido won their matches to give us a 4-3 victory! They currently sit in second place on the ladder, only half a match off top spot! Division 7 Our division 7 side went down 5-2 to a strong Mt Lawley outfit. Nic Johnson bounced back impressively with a win in his match up. The highlight of the day was a comprehensive victory for Matt Clune who won 9&8- something you don’t see very often. Division 8 The Division 8 lads went down 5-2 to Wanneroo but the match was a lot closer than that with the majority of the games coming down to the last couple of holes. Shaun Tamehana continued his strong start to the season while Chris Alexander had a convincing 6&5 victory. The boys enjoy a week off this week before getting back into the swing of things the following weekend. Division 2 will look to turn things around against Rockingham. Division 4 take on Mt Lawley at Cottesloe in what should be an evenly paired match up. Division 6 will look to tighten their grip on the top two spots on the ladder travelling to Sun City to take on a struggling WA golf club side. Division 7 will look to use home ground advantage against Lake Karrinyup in an important match up for them whilst Division 8 also play at home against Chequers with a win seeing them move into contention at the top.

18.01.2022 A tightly contested 36 hole final at Lakelands Country Club resulted in Joondalup's Amie Phobubpa and Aldrich Potgieter becoming 2021 WA Amateur Champions. Run...ners-up WAGC's Haydn Barron and Mount Lawley's Kirsten Rudgeley fought hard against the sixteen year olds in some challenging winds and super fast greens. Congratulations to Aldrich and Amie, wonderful to see those smiles. See more

15.01.2022 Many thanks to Greg Wilson who has been out doing some course photos for us. Greg will be around the club for a few months capturing the changes and we are looking forward to showing off some of his work. If any of you have some nice shots of your own and are happy for us to use them, we would love you to send them in.

13.01.2022 Congratulations to all the ladies who took part in this year's Ladies Club Championship. Rita Conway capped off a very impresive year to be crowned the 2020 Lakelands Country Club Ladies Club Champion. Overall Nett Champion honours went to Glenis Saxon who went in with the mindset of 'not coming last.' Some achievement Glenis! Full winners list can be found in this week's newsletter.

12.01.2022 Men’s Pennants It was a mixed weekend for our Men’s pennants teams with most teams following their previous form. Once again there were some strong individual performances across all teams. Adam Baillie was the stand out in our division 2 team, winning 6&5, whilst Darryl Hawkey won 7&5 in our division 6 team, which remains undefeated. Our division 2 boys really need to turn things around if we are to avoid relegation this season. Adam Baillie and Daz McLoughlin stood ...up but it wasn’t enough as we went down to Rockingham at their home course 2-5. Daz McLoughlin has won all 3 of his games which is an impressive effort. The boys have a must win match-up this weekend against Sea View at the Vines. No excuses here, we simply must get our season up and running here. Division 4 put up an improved performance against at Cottesloe against Mt Lawley but suffered a similar fate to the Division 2 boys, losing 4.5-2.5. Well done to Trevor Beazley and Peter Simmonds who won their match ups. The boys face Joondalup at Joondalup this weekend which isn’t the ideal match-up when we desperately need to turn the season around but it certainly is a winnable match-up given Joondalup have a mixed bag of results so far. Another must win match-up! On a more positive note, our division 6 boys continued their outstanding start to the season and sit on top spot! It was slightly closer than desired against the bottom of the ladder WAGC, but a win is a win! Ben Hawkins, Darryl Hawkey and Biff Brody won their matches while Andrew Farmer and Larry Florido crucially halved their matches to secure a 4-3 victory. Division 6 also travel to Joondalup to play a winless Joondalup. They will be looking to come away with maximum points here to pencil their names in for a finals position. More positive news from division 7 who got their season up and running with a home win over Lake Karrinyup. Wins for Daniel Soderman, Chris Cooper, Nic Johnson and Matt Clune secured a narrow 4-3 which moves us level with Lake Karrinyup on points and in a good position to climb the ladder in the coming weeks. A tough trip this week to face an inform Sun City at Wanneroo but these are the kind of ties we need to win if they are to make a late surge for the finals. Division 8 put a brilliant effort at home against an undefeated Sun City but ultimately fell agonizingly short, losing 3-4 with a couple of games going right down to the wire. Elliott Reid, Shaun Tamehana and Chris Alexander all won with strong performances. It leaves us right in the middle of the pack, certainly not out of contention. A win this week at Wanneroo against Lake Karrinyup would be a huge boost after last week’s narrow loss. It should be another close one with both teams looking very evenly matched on paper.

02.01.2022 This past Sunday saw round 1 of the Mens Metropolitan Pennants season play out over several courses. Lakelands takes 5 teams into this year’s season 1 less than past years, with the hope of having a stronger pool of players to choose from. Our thanks need to go to Brett Gossage for leading the way as Pennant Coordinator this year. This is a thankless task that throws up challenges every week and Brett has handled it all brilliantly.... Anyway, here is the rundown. If you want to follow each week simply click the link at the bottom of these reports for the full details. Division 2 travelled to Hartfield to take on 2019s Division 1 relegated side in Royal Perth. Royal Perth is much fancied with a strong side coming from near and far in the hope of returning them to Division 1. Our side looked similar to previous years, with the addition of Gagan Dhaliwal adding some youth after earning his spot following a strong State Amateur Championship. It wasn’t to be for our boys as they went down 5 2. Both Daz McLauglin and Ally Bell had good wins to start the season, and Ryan Peake took the top match to the last hole before narrowly missing out. Royal Perth showed their depth and why they will be hard for any team to beat. We move on to Royal Perth to take on Bunbury, who opened their season with a big win, next week. Division 4 were at WAGC to play against Cottesloe. There were big wins for Adam Bailie and Jarrod Harben, who both won 5&4, but the team went down 5 2. Two matches were decided on the 18th green so the match was closer than the score line suggests. We look to have a team that can match all others in Division 4 and are looking forward to next week where we take on Lake Karrinyup out at The Vines. Division 6 were the standouts this week with a big 6 1 win out at The Vines over Wanneroo. Darryl Hawkey was the big winner with a 5&4 win, and we sit top of the table after one game. A home game next week will give us the chance to consolidate the spot at the top. Division 7 visited The Vines to play Wanneroo. There were wins for Martin West, Rod Brown & Chris Cooper, but ultimately, we fell short by a score of 4 3. We move on to WAGC for a match against Mt Lawley next week. Division 8 took a drive to Chequers to play Joondalup. A great day out for our guys who left with a 5 2 victory that puts us top of the table. There were easy wins for Daniel Soderman & Gus Fernandez, and tighter wins for Glen Facey & Shaun Tamehana. Its off to Sun City to play Chequers next week. Good luck to all next week. It’d be good to see some spectators out there cheering on the guys as they strive to bring a few flags back for the clubhouse walls. https://www.golfwa.org.au//penn/men/metropolitan-pennants/
