25.01.2022 The Fire and Emergency Services Levy (FESL), which was due to commence on July 1, has been postponed by the NSW Government, in order to ensure that small and me...dium businesses do not face an unreasonable burden as a result of unintended consequences. Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Treasurer Dominic Perrottet MP said that in the majority of cases across NSW, fully insured people would be better off under the new system, however it had become clear that some fully insured businesses were facing unintended consequences. We are a Government that listens, and we have heard the concerns from the community, and we will take the time to get this right, Ms Berejiklian said. While the new system produces fairer outcomes in the majority of cases, some people particularly in the commercial and industrial sectors are worse off by too much under the current model, and that is not what we intended. The NSW Government will work with local government, fire and emergency services, the insurance industry and other stakeholders to find a better and fairer path forward. The Fire and Emergency Services Levy will continue to be collected via insurance policies until the NSW Government has completed its review of the policy, and the funding requirements of fire and emergency services agencies will be met in full.

21.01.2022 Lake Macquarie City Council has succumbed to mounting community and State Government pressure, and has temporarily removed the photographs of convicted child sex offenders Milton Orkopoulos and Douglas Carley from the Lake Macquarie City Council administration building. Cr Kevin Baker has expressed his happiness at this, but highlighted that more is needed in order to ensure that these photos do not go back up again. I have moved a Notice of Motion to be presented at tonight...s Council meeting that expressly states that not only will these photos be permanently removed, but all other items honouring these people, such as plaques, will be identified and removed from other buildings. Cr Baker said. Further, I have stated that a policy should be created to govern the display of such photographs and items in the future, to make sure that we never get into this situation again. Cr Baker has also moved a Recession Motion, aimed at lifting the confidentiality of the Confidential Notice of Motion dealt with in the meeting of 28 November 2016. Cr Baker said The confidentiality that was placed on this Notice of Motion was, in my opinion, unlawful, as it does not meet any of the requirements for closing a meeting under the Local Government Act. Council should be acting in a fair and transparent way, not placing gag orders on potentially embarrassing items.. Cr Bakers motion, 17NM012, and recession motion, 17RM002, will be debated at tonights Lake Macquarie City Council Meeting, where the Labor party will be moving a competing motion. Cr Jason Pauling stated Shame on the Labor Party for trying to politicise this important issue they have tried to block this time and time again, and are now playing turncoat at the last minute trying to save face. Cr Nick Jones agreed Lake Macquarie Council has failed victims, its failed ratepayers we need to get rid of these photos, get rid of any other plaques and items, and close this sorry chapter in our history.

17.01.2022 Lake Macquarie City Council and the NSW Institute of Sport are inviting young Lake Macquarie swimmers to experience a day in the life of an Olympic swimmer at Charlestown Swim Centre on Friday 27 January. Councils Manager Leisure Services, Brad Sutton, said the Swim with the Stars workshop provides local swimmers with the opportunity to meet and learn from some of their swimming idols. The workshop will allow up-and-coming swimmers to learn techniques and hear advice from ...some of the best people in the industry, including Olympic swimmers, coaches, physiotherapists and dieticians, Mr Sutton said. Olympic medallist, Alicia Coutts, said she is excited to be involved in the Swim with the Stars program for the first time. 17.01.2022 Lake Macquarie City Council has again joined the fight to reduce the number of car thefts in the City through Operation Bounce Back. An initiative of the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council, Operation Bounce Back aims to raise awareness and reduce complacency when it comes to motor vehicle thefts. Councils Manager Community Planning, John Ferguson, said in 2015/16, Lake Macquarie City was ranked fourth in NSW for short-term motor vehicle thefts. There were 483 ...vehicle thefts recorded in Lake Macquarie last year, with more than 60 per cent of these incidents occurring from a residential address, Mr Ferguson said. NSW Police have advised this rise in incidents at residential addresses is due to a shift in car theft methods over the past few years, with thieves targeting homes in order to steal the keys of secure vehicles. Simple things, such as choosing your car park wisely, removing valuables from your vehicle and protecting your keys at home can help to reduce the risk of your car being stolen. To help you reduce your risk of theft, visit www.carsafe.com.au for tips on ensuring your car is secure and download the home security audit to assess the security of your home. Operation Bounce Back is an initiative of the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council and Lake Macquarie City Council. See more

06.01.2022 Great news for the community - the Lake Mac Liberal team working hard in Council to achieve positive outcomes for all.

06.01.2022 LAKE MAC LIBERALS WILL DELIVER FENCED OFF-LEASH DOG AREAS TO ENSURE A DOG FRIENDLY LAKE MACQUARIE Lake Mac Liberals have announced that they will fast track planned, and deliver additional fenced off leash dog areas within Lake Macquarie if elected on September 10. Mayoral Candidate Cr Jason Pauling, Acting Chairman of Councils Companion Animals Advisory Committee said Fenced off-leash areas have been identified as a priority for Committee members, but lack of consultation ...and results from Council Departments had been a significant cause of frustration for committee members and dog owners alike. Any area where off-leash dogs, bike-riders and children interact has the potential for incidents, and fencing of off-leash areas improves safety and decreases angst for everyone Many of Lake Macquaries existing leash-free areas are adjacent to busy roads, which means that there is risk of dogs being hit by cars if they run off. By providing fenced leash-free areas the safety of dogs is improved and dogs can run free without risk its all about improving the amenity of our city. Currently there are no fenced leash-free areas within the City of Lake Macquarie which is an absolute shame. Cr. Pauling added. Sue Barker, President of Dog Rescue Newcastle and LMCC Companion Animals Advisory Committee member said Fenced leash-free areas are a concept that is widely used throughout Australia, and weve been pushing for some time to get some in Lake Macquarie for a long time with no results. They provide a great opportunity for dogs and owners to interact in a safe and friendly environment. Lake Macquarie City Council has been slow to make any progress with developing fenced off-leash dog exercise areas. Smaller towns in NSW put us to shame and for such a large city Lake Macquarie has not delivered for dog owners. Im pleased that the Liberal team have listened to our concerns, and committed to delivering these much needed areas dog owners will be elated at this news! North Ward Liberal Candidate Kevin Baker said All pet owners love their pets as if they are part of their family and you want to keep them safe. As the proud owner of rescue dog, Id love to be able to take my dog to a local fenced off leash area, where I know that were going to be able to have fun without having to worry about cars, getting in the way of bikes, and causing issue for other people. East Ward Liberal Candidate Nick Jones said This is a fantastic initiative that has been a long time coming when these projects are delivered, dog owners will be able to enjoy safe off leash time with their pet, which will be a great outcome for the community.

04.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we Forget.

04.01.2022 As we come up to another hot day, just imagine how those leftovers in your bin would be smelling if they had to be left there for a fortnight after you are forced to a fortnightly bin collection... this is what is happening under the current plan by Lake Macquarie Council. Your Lake Mac Liberal team of Cr Jason Pauling, Cr Nick Jones, and Cr Kevin Baker are fighting this - no reduction in waste services for Lake Macquarie, we dont want to be the stinky city!

03.01.2022 Have your say on the future of the Charlestown Lions Park!

03.01.2022 It is a very slippery slope when somebody tries to shut down opposing political views and opinions - image is an excerpt from an email sent to Councillors from the Labor Mayor. Harry Truman once said in a speech to the US Congress "Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens"

03.01.2022 Fed up with litter in your community? Opportunities are available for funding to assist with cleaning it up!

02.01.2022 Promise Delivered! Cr Jason Pauling, Cr Kevin Baker, and Cr Nick Jones announced during the 2016 election campaign that the Lake Mac Liberals would deliver fenced off leash dog areas - and were delivering on that promise. Lake Macs first off leash dog area will be built at Speers Point - a 10,000 square meter fenced off leash dog park, located between Creek Reserve Road and an existing wetland. The fenced area will also include droppings disposal bins, agility exercise equipment and space for ball games and training schools.

02.01.2022 Your Lake Mac Liberals will fight any attempt to change our National Anthem!

01.01.2022 Fantastic post by Cr Nick Jones - who, with his fellow Lake Macquarie Liberals Cr Kevin Baker and Cr Jason Pauling were the only ones who opposed this motion. "Last night one of our Councillors put a motion to Lake Macquarie City Council (LMCC) that we write to the Prime Minister requesting a change to our National Anthem. The majority of a combined Labor and Independent vote got this across the line. I proudly opposed as did my fellow Liberals, Kevin Baker and Jason Pauling.... LMCC staff have a focused and strong commitment to community consultation, full credit. From what I have seen our Council is certainly one of the best when it come to involving the community on as many topics as is practically possible. Last night we were asked to vote on a very emotive and culturally significant topic, there was no public consultation whatsoever. Thanks to this vote LMCC on behalf of all of its residents now supports a change to our National Anthem. While I think the particular change ("young" to "strong") is ridiculous this is not the source of my frustration and opposition to this motion. My frustration stems from the arrogant and self praising manner in which some (too many) elected representatives operate in politics these days with no regard for the public that elected them. I, along with my fellow Crs, were not elected to debate State and Federal issues, we were elected to look after Lake Macquarie. This is clearly a Federal issue. *cough* refer to Federal Member *cough* If Politicians (or wannabe Politicians) actually got off their soap boxes, packed away their egos and started to focus on the issues they have been elected to resolve the public might actually start to show them some respect. Sadly I think Pollies across the country are still regarded as self serving wankers and will be for some time." See more
