07.01.2022 Mahmud Hawila, barrister, appeared on behalf of the LMA at the Public hearing for the Joint Select Committee on the Anti-Discrimination Amendment (Religious Fre...edoms and Equality) Bill 2020 at NSW Parliament House. He spoke to the LMA submission and answered questions relating to the Bill. Mahmud gave evidence on the disastrous impacts of hate speech and hate crimes, including Islamophobic attacks on the community. He called for the insertion of anti-vilification provisions in the Bill, and argued that Muslims should enjoy protections from discrimination equal to those already covered by the Anti-Discrimination Act.
