Lakes Beach House will finish the year a bit dirty from all the burnt ash that fell on her(but safe) and heartbroken for all the Gippslanders and others Australians that have lost lives, property and livestock. Looking back at the year we started with fighting fires near our farm at Maffra. And now we finish the year and started a new year fighting fires near Lakes. Hopefully 2020 will be known for drought breaking rains that will end the fires, fill o...ur dams and rebuilt our communities. Thank you to all of our guests, hopefully you will return soon. 20.01.2022 East Gippsland needs your help. Being a farmer Im a bit bias to the groups that 100% raised goes direct to other farmers in need. East Gippsland farmers were already on their knees before the fires, dealing with years of drought. Now the fires have wiped out animals, fences, feed, water supplies & buildings. The stock that survived the fires need feed and water as soon as possible. All the groups below can be found on Facebook to see what they do. Boisdale Drought Break...ers group have set up a go fund me account. I donated stock feed to them on Thursday. The feed plus $10,000 of other supplies made to Buchan farmers the next day. https://www.gofundme.com/f/buchan-and-gelantipy-bush-fire-a Below are two other groups I have used before. Or start saving for a trip to East Gippsland when the fires are over(In 2 months approx). Summer is our busiest tourist season, at the moment they are ghost towns. 18.01.2022 Sad to see Lakes as a ghost town. Unless there is a lot of rain soon, we are not taking any guests at Lakes Beach House. Our thinking is there is too much new fire around Bruthen & Nowa Nowa, when the heat and wind return, it will be unsafe. ... The house is in a pretty safe part of town for Bush fires, its the roads that worry me most. Worry that the Highway to Bairnsdale could be shut for an extended period or people panicking and trying to leave town when the safest thing is to stay inside. Hopefully when the fires are over, everyone will return and help struggling communities. Tim

17.01.2022 Lakes Entrance & the Gippsland Lakes are back in business! The blue zones on the Vic Emergency App are for Community Information, the lowest bushfire warning! . There is no immediate fire threat, the short term forecast looks great with hopefully a nice drop of rain. There is a Whale washed up on the beach(we can not win a trick). The ash has been washed off the house, windows have been cleaned, we are ready for guests Come for a visit, bring an empty esky, eat out and shop in Lakes Entrance

11.01.2022 Smoke on the water. (Just smoke everywhere). We are glad there is smoke covering the town. This means no wind and we can take stock of this fire and strengthening containment lines and back burn. Its going to be a marathon.

07.01.2022 Buchan Caves are only an hour drive from Lakes. Such a great day trip, the Caves are amazing and plenty of walks. Have a meal at the Buchan Caves Hotel, which the community built.

06.01.2022 Rain, glorious rain. Most parts of East Gippsland received a nice drop of rain on Monday and today we got a little more. At the moment there are no warnings for Lakes Entrance. Thats the good news. Bad news is there is still a lot more of summer to go and the fires are not under control yet. But its nice it have some good news.
