22.01.2022 We had a magical Little Gardeners session this morning at the garden experimenting with using plants to make natural dye for play dough, and colourful tea to drink. We recommend getting your hands on some, or growing in your garden some Butterfly pea, also known as Darwin pea or clitoria ternata. It can be commonly found and the edge of paths in reserves, and you can also purchase locally dried at Parap Fine Foods. Learn a little more about this flower on the Taste of the Top End web page. https://tasteofthetopend.com/2020/05/08/foraging-for-ink/ We used the dry version of the Darwin pea flower, which changes to a purple colour with some citrus added. It worked well to make some dazzling purple/blue play dough and tea. And we used hibiscus flowers and old red cabbage boiled in water to make the pink play dough.

22.01.2022 See you there, please bring a water bottle and follow COVID safety guidelines, by staying at home if unwell. Thank you!

13.01.2022 We had a wonderful Little Gardeners session on Monday celebrating the Larrakia Seasons with Leslie Gordon, local Aboriginal woman and cultural educator. Leslie grew up on Larrakia saltwater country with the natural surrounds being her playground, and to hunt and harvest from. She is very passionate and knowledgeable about local bush foods. Leslie had great cultural activities for the children. She read Dalba Larrakia Baby by Larrakia Minbeni Rangers while children coloured in animals in the book on a picture of a seasonal calendar that we have a large version of at the garden. Leslie showed us local native plants that we can eat, play with, use as products for dyes and to make soap. We highly recommend Leslie!

We are super happy to announce that we have received a grant from City of Darwin, to make 3 (very) short movies with a local film maker about backyard food gardens, featuring top tips for people starting out, to answer those frequently asked questions.
