14.01.2022 After the horrendous bushfires last summer, there is no better time to talk about fire safety here at Lake St Clair. What is a total fire ban? A total fire ban means no fires out in the open. A total fire ban helps limit the potential of fires developing. During a total fire ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause a fire.... We check daily whether a total fire ban has been issued and, if so, post it on both amenities blocks by 9am for the day ahead. It is your responsibility, however, to check these signs prior to lighting a fire as to whether a fire ban is in place. All campfires must be contained in a suitable fire drum or fire pit and be off the ground. You will find drums around the campground that people have left behind if you didn’t bring your own. Common sense also dictates that fires shouldn’t be lit during windy periods. All fires are to be extinguished before 12pm every night or before you retire for the night. Gas BBQs are excepted during total fire ban status as per RFS issued rules: Must be under the direct control of a responsible adult, who is present at all times while in operation; No combustible material is allowed within 2 metres at any time while in operation; You must have an immediate supply of water Fines do apply for individuals who light fires during a total fire ban. Recklessness will not be tolerated. Neglecting these rules may see you asked to leave the Park. #blacksummer #bushfireseason #nswrfs #followtherules #firesafety

01.01.2022 It’s always a good idea to check under your car before moving it when camping. This little guy (an Eastern long-necked turtle) was hanging out under our vehicle near the office last weekend. Did you know that these guys feed mostly on small invertebrates such as worms, snails and insect larvae, including mosquitoes and can often be seen around the Lake if you look close enough? #campingnsw #campingaustralia #SingletonNSW #lakestclairnsw #lakestclairpark
