25.01.2022 Blue Moon Alpacas has re opened with the lifting of restrictions . Good timing, as the alpacas always look their best in full fleece after a little rain, showing up their true colours. It is a great time to visit the farm , the alpacas and pop into the studio and gift shop. Alpaca tours are available at $5.00 a car, we will take you for a short walk to the alpacas and have an educational talk on everything alpaca. You may also wish or prefer an educational walk through our or...ganic vegetable market garden and experience first hand all the procedures, tips and advice in growing organic vegetables. This tour would take a little longer and cost $ 10.00 . Due to covid 19 restrictions we do need you to phone ahead on 4301 0000 to arrange a time for your visit. Heirloom tomato plants are available for sale on farm, please phone to arrange a pick up time. See more

19.01.2022 Despite all the recent frosts our potatoes are coming along just fine. We are trying a new method this year, planting much earlier to avoid the summer heat and excess watering. These guys are grown without soil in a straw bed, a sprinkle of compost and our homemade alpaca manure. As they grow I continue to add more straw. So far so good , looks like we will have a very early crop. We will keep you informed with the progress.

19.01.2022 As our rocket is now going to seed I will get a couple more picks before I till it back into the soil in preparation for our tomato bed. This will help keep the nematodes in order, thus ensuring a great tomato crop. We have a good supply of heirloom tomato plants available here on farm, just phone 4301 0000 to arrange a pick up time. Remember to bring a box or container to transport your plants home safely.

18.01.2022 After all my grumbling, whineing, winging, complaining, bitching, moaning, grizzling, disappointment, sadness, bitterness, disgruntlment, resentful, displeased, unhappy, disappointed, angry, irate, annoyed, cross, angry, exasperated, peeved, miffed, shirty, narked, ticked off with the deplorable, shabby, appalling, dreadful, terrible, discusting, outrageous, discreditable, shocking, scandalous, despicable amount of rainfall this year, yesterday we received 25.5 mm, our highest recording since June last year. And we are so happy, excited, cheerful, joyful, delighted, pleased, contented, ecstatic, elated, glad, joyous, jubilant, lively, merry, overjoyed, thrilled, gleeful, gratified, jolly and thankful.

As the local markets are still in lockdown our tomato plants will be available on farm this year. 04.01.2022 Todays pick cauliflowers and broccoli for our Farm Gate sales. The outer leaves have been a huge success with the alpacas, pigs and poultry, hopefully there will be a few spare for the compost. Please phone 4301 0000 to arrange a pick up time for your tomato plants and vegetables.

03.01.2022 Our raised beds, the story so far. After building the structures and filling with assorted weeds, spent crops, straw, grass clippings and animal manure, allowing it to break down, then repeating the process twice more, we finally topped with mature compost. Next step was to set up the drip irrigation and plant out with our first crop of assorted lettuce, which we watered in with a seaweed and worm juice solution. I have chosen lettuce as it is fast growing this time of year a...nd I expect the soil level to drop during this period. Once we have harvested all the lettuce I will top up with more compost before planting some long term herbs. After picking a bumper crop of asparagus this morning we have plenty available for our Farm Gate sales today, along with our heirloom tomato plants. Please phone 4301 0000 to arrange a pick up time.
