25.01.2022 Daylight Savings ends tomorow, Easter Sunday, and clocks will go back from 3am to 2am. "Spring forwards, fall backwards" - it all sounds so easy, doesn't it?! Babies and children have a circadian rhythm, their internal biological clock. This is reset every day by 3 things: ... food, light and social interaction In order to change/reset our children's internal biological clock again once they wake 1hr earlier on Sunday, we need to move all food, light and social interaction forward by 15mins every 2 days. Start by getting your child up 15mins later than they usually would, according to the new time, then schedule every nap, every milk feed, every meal time, every bath time and bedtime 15mins later than the usual new time as well. Continue pushing everything later by 15mins more every 2 days and by the following Sunday you're back to the normal times. It happens due to the amount of milk consumed by your baby and their smaller sized stomach Remember! some spilling/vomiting is VERY normal!!... When things start to get complicated SILENT REFLUX: No vomiting but rather hearing gurgling which can result in your baby’s pain. COMPLICATED REFLUX (GORD): Lot's of vomiting 5 or more times a day, resulting in feeding issues. Often Reflux can be REALLY misdiagnosed. 19.01.2022 One of the most talked about issues when it comes to disruption of sleep is teething! As parents it can be easy to blame everything on your baby's teething or possible teething. From dribbling, to pulling ears, to being miserable and cranky and most blamed disruption to sleep Most babies don't cut teeth until 7months, even though some babies do earlier, this is the average. The fact is, even though teething can come with many symptoms and challenges, unless your baby is gen...erally miserable for all their naps in the day it is unlikely that teething is the root of their issues overnight. Teething pain is NOT usually responsible for night wake ups, in fact pain is reduced when at night due to blood pressure being lower, and your baby is in a sleepy state as the body relaxes. It's important to try and not link sick symptoms with teething also, this is often an issue and parents can sometimes overlook a viral infection or something else because they assume it's related to teething. Best advice is to be prepared for the teething stages, however those babies with healthy sleeping habits earlier on, aren't affected by teething as much, because they have learnt those solid foundations related to sleep. The World Health Organisation recommends room sharing up until 12 months of age and most Maternal and Child Health Centres in Australia say 6-12 months. Without going into too much detail about how sleep can affect each child individually, we wanted to focus on each month and how to deal with a month at a time.
