13.01.2022 This week the grade 1/2’s have been learning the sound ‘th’ as in thong, we took advantage of the nice weather and the students were able to go outside to use chalk to segment words. The students also drew pictures to match their spelling words. They had heaps of fun and are ready for their spelling test on Friday!

08.01.2022 Lalor North PS is an amazing, unique school. We offer Italian as a specialist class once a week in our wonderful Standard Program. We also have two internationally recognised Bilingual Programs. There is a fantastic Greek Bilingual Program and a Macedonian Bilingual Program. Places available for 2021 in each of our three programs. Below is a message from Ms Teresa regarding our Italian Program- This week our amazing Grade 5/6 Italian Extension Group have put their pronunciation of the Italian language into practice by reading short books about animals to the P-2 classes. Our P-2 students really enjoyed having the older students read to them, as the Grade 5/6 students shared their knowledge and skills in Italian. Bravo!

06.01.2022 Yesterday 28 October, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of ‘OXI’ (NO) Day which is a Greek national day commemorated by Greeks around the world. Our students learnt about the significance of the day. On this day in 1940, the Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas answered with a firm ‘NO’ to the ultimatum made by the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini to enter Greece. This marked the beginning of Greece’s participation in the Second World War. 03.01.2022 GREEK-ENGLISH BILINGUAL PROGRAM Last week students in Grade 1 and 2 in the Greek-English Bilingual Program were asked to write a new ending to the traditional story of "The Three Little Pigs". The children showed great imagination and composed very interesting and unexpected alternative endings to this well known fairy-tale.

02.01.2022 The students in the Middle Years have been working really hard to improve their writing during remote learning. They have focused on using precise language and technical vocabulary that suits the topic they are writing about. Last week, they watched a YouTube video and listened to their class teacher give information about how paper is recycled. They took notes and wrote their own explanation text about 'How Paper is Recycled'. Here is a small sample of their work.

01.01.2022 During remote learning, the students in the Middle Years have been learning about a range of genres in writing. This week they are exploring explanation texts. The students have been taught to use a range of research skills to help them collect information. For this task, they needed to listen to a text read by their teacher during their class meeting and record the key words for each step in the process of recycling paper. They did an incredible job of recording keywords, and even drawing a picture to match each step.
