20.01.2022 Today, is R U OK day and Facebook is filled with people asking the question in generic posts not aimed at whoever may see it in their newsfeed. This is great as it gets people talking, however it is just the tip of the iceberg. If you have a friend who is struggling at the moment, they are unlikely to reply to one of these generic posts asking if they are ok. In fact , it is more likely to bring to their attention that they really are not ok, but no one is asking them and rea...lly taking the time to listen. If you know someone who seems to have changed lately, maybe they aren’t hanging out with friends as often, maybe they have stopped participating in their favourite sport, activity or hobby, maybe they seem distant or withdrawn, please don’t just send them a message on R U OK Day. Use today as a catalyst to really reach out and make a plan to take them to lunch, go see a movie, grab a coffee. Or if they don’t live locally, set up a phone date when you know you can both talk for a decent amount of time without interruption. Suicide is the 13th most common cause of death in Australia and the 10th most common cause of death for males. Whilst RU OK Day is encourages all to discuss this issue and certainly brings it to our attention and a generic post may make the person posting feel like they are doing something, it certainly is not going to help the person in your life who is struggling. You can do more. Pick up the phone, ask the question..not once, but several times to ensure they know you really care, make a plan to do something together. And above all SHOW UP! Show up for someone, reach out, don’t just make a generic Facebook post and expect the person struggling to reach out to you.

06.01.2022 Here's a great holiday option for young people who like to dance. You need to be 13-17 years but it doesn't matter if you do or do not have any formal training. So if groovin' to the beat or sashaying around the room to a tune is you, check it out!

06.01.2022 It is with great sadness that I confirm that La Luna Youths has closed and Moira Carter from BRI Ferrier, Townsville has been appointed as administrator. The tropical monsoon and our temporary move to the pop up space at CastleTown wiped us out. I would like to sincerely thank McConaghy Realty for their generous donation of the pop up space. I would also like to thank all staff, participants and their families for making La Luna Youth Arts what it was over the 30+ years of its operations.
