16.01.2022 Vertical Rescue | Salamander Bay Wednesday 16th September 17:00hrs Technical Rescue vehicle from Lambton was called by Salamander Bay Fire Station Rescue Pumper to a 12 year old male who had fallen down a series of shear cliffs and had broken his leg. The Salamander Bay rescue crew began setting up a rope system and required extra specialised vertical equipment from the technical rescue vehicle.... Extrication of the young male, was made even more difficult due to the terrain and a large body of water at the base of the cliff. Helicopter winching was unable to take place due to debris in the old quarry, so a doctor was dropped off and the helicopter landed nearby. Fire and Rescue NSW crews along with NSW Ambulance, Toll rescue helicopter and NSW Police Force worked efficiently together to remove the patient from the cliff side to the awaiting aircraft in a stable condition. #FRNSW #MoreThanFire #preparedforanything #interagency #salamanderbayrescue Photos: 402 Salamander Bay Crew

13.01.2022 RESCUE INCIDENT About 10.35pm on Friday 4 September FRNSW crews (Pumper 260 Newcastle, Rescue Pumper 357 and Technical Rescue 357 Lambton) responded to reports of a male that had fallen between two buildings in Wickham Street, Wickham. On arrival FRNSW crews found paramedics already on scene and firefighters were shown where the male had fallen approximately 10 metres down a narrow space between two buildings, one being a multi-storey construction site. To complicate the inci...dent, a female friend of the male had also then slid down between the buildings in attempt to aid her friend and in turn was also trapped with no way to exit between the narrow space between the two buildings. Firefighters and Ambulance Paramedics gained access to the two people utilising roping equipment. Both were assessed and the injured male stabilised. Whilst this was being undertaken, other firefighters constructed a vertical rescue hauling system to retrieve both persons. The injured male was transported to hospital for further assessment and treatment. The incident presented some challenges due to the limited access and narrow work space for crews, low light, and weather conditions. Also in attendance was FRNSW Duty Commander MN1, and Police Newcastle Fire & Rescue 260 #FRNSW #MoreThanFire Story 357 'C' Platoon
