19.01.2022 'First Nations people lived in this area, carefully managing and using its rich natural resources for thousands of years. Known as ‘Woonoongoora’ in the Yugambeh language, the mountains of Lamington National Park are sacred and spiritual, places to be nurtured and respected.' 16.01.2022 'Deep feelings clutched me during the Daves Creek Country walk. We had descended through rainforest, eucalyptus forest and sheoak forest and finally through low mallee-heath country, and stopped for a rest at Surprise Rock, gazing out across the valley and cliffs beyond. This is Australia before colonisation I thought, before any roads and buildings, maybe even before Aboriginal arrival.' https://www.wildlifetourism.org.au/binna-burra-memories-an/

16.01.2022 NPAQ: 'Although Queensland has very high biodiversity it has the smallest proportion of its land in protected areas (just over 8%), well short of other states and the UN international target (17%). Much of our biodiversity, including critical habitats and climate refuges for native plant and animal species, such as inland wetlands, remain outside protected areas. This means little to no dedicated management of multiple threats, and risks remain from potential land use change.'
14.01.2022 Includes Lamington National Park. The Gondwana Rainforests of Australia is a serial, cross-jurisdictional property comprising the major remaining areas of rainforest in south east Queensland and north east New South Wales. It currently includes parts of 41 protected areas located largely on the Great Dividing Range and eastern escarpment, extending from Main Range National Park in south east Queensland to Barrington Tops National Park in New South Wales. https://environment.des.qld.gov.au//world-herita/gondwana
14.01.2022 'The National Parks Association of Queensland (NPAQ) has been active in increasing Queensland’s National Park Estate and seeking management of threats for 90 years. Romeo Lahey looms large in the establishment and early years of the Association. Lahey recognised that no body of public opinion was organised to combat the influences which were operating against the best interests of national parks. https://npaq.org.au/legacy/#comment-354
13.01.2022 Know the rules when you visit a national park or State forest! Our Rangers are out and about in parks and forests to ensure that everyone is doing the right thi...ng. Their day-to-day duties include undertaking law enforcement activities anywhere, anytime! Recently #QldParkRangers have found visitors camped in national parks with chainsaws! Fact: Disturbing or damaging vegetation is a punishable offence in our #QldParks and forests. If Rangers find you with a chainsaw in a national park or State forest, you may be issued with a $533 on-the-spot fine. So if you’re planning a trip to a national park or State forest, leave your chainsaw at home (or safely stored in your vehicle if travelling), don't collect firewood and bring your own clean, milled wood! When planning your camping trip, check out all you need to know about doing the right thing in the park you intend to visit and avoid our law enforcing Rangers! https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks Craig Dunk Queensland Government #QPWSCompliance #QPWSDontGetPINned

09.01.2022 It was an honour to do some track-note checking for the Lamington Natural History Association over the weekend with this crack team! Amy Hartley and I were luck...y to walk one of my favourites in the park - the Daves Creek circuit. The spring wildflowers should be great this year!! And along with that some other good news... Binna Burra road is finally opening on 1 September along with most tracks on the eastern side of Lamington National Park. The Sky Lodges at Binna Burra Lodge are also officially open 1 September then the campsite and tea house in time for the school holidays. Also excited to announce that interNATIONAL PARKtours will be operating the guest activities starting in the September school holidays. We will be employing some of the guides who lost work after the 2019 bushfires and look forward to coming back to the place where our walking tour company was born in 1975! Further details will be on the Binna Burra website in the coming week or so!! See more
