25.01.2022 LOOKOUT PATH TO BE COMPLETED MID-JUNE The new wooden path leading up to the lookout just north of the Lancelin Beach Hotel is on track to be finished mid month.... On the south side (as seen in these pics) there is a staircase leading up to the lookout. On the north side there is a ramp to cater for those on bikes, skates and in wheelchairs. The lower section on the north is still a dirt track however that will be concreted shortly. The deck and railing were replaced with new timber to match the rest of the project and providing it is oiled regularly it should last for many many years The project is worth around $160k of which the Bendigo Bank chipped in $44k via the Lancelin District Community Association Inc. The LDCA is looking at a range of of other projects and if you'd like to help make more things happen in town, PM this page and you'll be put in touch with the right person.

25.01.2022 PREMIER BARNETT TALKS TOURISM Forty three people met at the Jurien Bay Education Ctr this afternoon to talk about ways to grow tourism along this section of th...e coast. Bevan Henderson from the LDCA and I spoke about Lancelin's pressing issues; short term accommodation like a caravan park, some infrastructure at the dunes and a boat ramp for the region. It was pointed out that at present, more than 250,000 people head to the Pinnacles each year, many of them passing by our town. Lancelin's challenge is to work out how to get more of that traffic in to our town. The Premier made it very clear that he would be giving the area "a very big push" and would use his "position as Premier to push things along." One thing that was clear was there were some very passionate people in the room, people keen to work with each other on the bigger picture; to get more people to this part of WA's coast.

25.01.2022 MUSTER NEARLY SOLD OUT There are only 12 places left in the field of 500 for the LDCA's Off-Road Muster where we aim to break the Guinness World Record for Largest Convoy of Off-Road Vehicles on Sat Oct 15th. The event will sell out in the next couple of hours so if you're keen to enter, this is your last chance to register - www.lancelin.com.au/muster... As you can see Toyota's are the dominant make in the field by a mile!

24.01.2022 SELL OUT The Muster has sold out, however, we are still holding a handful of registrations for LDCA members so if you're keen to help us break a Guinness World Record for Largest Convoy of Off-Road Vehicles PM the page for a promo code that will enable you to register for the Oct 15th event.

24.01.2022 LDCA AGM TOMORROW The LDCA annual general meeting is on at the Angling Club tomorrow (Sunday) at 11am. This association has had a major impact on developments in town this year and next year will see even more exciting projects undertaken. If you want to make things happen in the town, come tomorrow and join the association.... The LDCA is behind a number of sensational events including the Colour Run, Buskers Festival, Off Road Muster, Australia Day in the Park and Beach Clean Up day. The association is also a trusted partner of the Shire of Gingin and provides vital local input on a number of projects like the new Skate Park, Tourist Park, beach path, Cunliffe Street beautification works, boat ramp and Lookout path. The LDCA realises little happens without a concerted effort by a large number of people and with a growing membership base of people with a wide range of skills, the town is in good hands.

23.01.2022 Thanks to all those who helped make yesterday’s Off-Road Muster a roaring success. We had some prizes allocated to volunteers thanks to some generous sponsors. If you helped, you could have won a prize. Watch the prize draw by clicking on the video. Apologies if the video plays sideways.

23.01.2022 7 HURT IN LANCELIN MASS CASUALTY Volunteer ambulance, fire and marine rescue personnel, along with two police officers and the local ranger rushed to Lancelin b...each earlier today to tend to 7 adults, severely injured in a boating accident as a crowd of onlookers gathered.... all in aid of Lancelin's Mannequin Challenge. Yes, it was just a fun exercise in standing completely still for a couple of minutes, highlighting the great work our emergency services people perform. Colin Walker from St John Ambulance Lancelin set up the scenario and liaised with the different groups in town while the Lancelin Facebook page spread the word resulting in plenty of participants turning up to be a part of the quirky video shoot; press play and turn up the volume. With the busy summer holiday season about to kick off, spare a thought for those you'll call on in times of trouble. Many give up spending time with their families so they can help yours. 23.01.2022 LANCELIN TO GET A SWIM PLATFORM IF you're prepared to chip in a few dollars via this Go Fund Me page - https://www.gofundme.com/Lancelinswimplatform Lancelin has long deserved a swim platform in the bay and with your help we'll get one. The Lancelin District Community Association is asking you to contribute towards the $18k cost of installing a quality swim platform, like the one at Guilderton.... This may be the only chance the town gets to have one installed and if we raise enough cash by February 28th, the platfrom can be in place by Lancelin Colour Blast Day, Saturday the 3rd of March. Yes, that soon! You and your kids will love this piece of kit. It'll be in the bay, 15m-30m from the shore, in calm water, and away from the cray boats that ply the jetty. You won't be able to get your kids off it; just look at how popular other platforms have proven to be up and down our coast. But it's up to you to make it happen. You are going to have to put your hand in your wallet, and if you have a business that's doing alright, please be super- generous with your donation. It will be in the water for the warmer weather and stored out of the water over winter. This is a community project that we’ve been yearning for in Lancelin for years and it could be floating in the bay in time for the Colour Blast. Once you've donated here -https://www.gofundme.com/Lancelinswimplatform please tag family and friends who might also appreciate a swim platform in the bay. The Lancelin District Community Association (LDCA) thanks you in advance.

Please SHARE this amongst your friends as it will be policed in the early stages to ensure adherence to the lower limit.

17.01.2022 LDCA's Annual General Meeting will be held at 11am on Sunday 4th September 2016 in Lancelin Angling & Aquatic Club. Everyone is welcome.

17.01.2022 EVER SEEN ONE OF THESE This 11m long pole has a rather elaborate structure on top of it and shortly it will be installed in Lancelin. It’s an Eagle’s nest, well... the basic structure of one; the eagles then pad it out with sticks and stuff and then raise their youngsters in it. The pole is currently on the ground at the northern end of town awaiting erection. It has been organised by the Lancelin District Community Association. Wester Power had previously taken down 3 separate nests that were built on power poles, due to them being a risk. The LDCA got involved at that point and worked alongside Western Power to have the structure built. Lancelin Hardware provided the wood and local carpenter Ollie O’Neil constructed the top bit with Western Power providing the 11m pole. A suitable spot is now being evaluated and Western Power has happily agreed to sink the pole to the required depth after which the local ospreys can move in. #lancelin #westernpower #ldca #osprey #eagle

16.01.2022 Here's the Muster promotional poster art. So far we've had over 210 people pre-register for the event. A huge response and at this rate, when we open registrations next month, we should sell out in a couple of days. Locals are advised to pre-register by PMing their email address to this page. We will need about 30 volunteers on the day, are you available to register drivers/vehicles or help with marshalling cars in the town centre or out at the dunes?

16.01.2022 LDCA OPEN GARDEN DAY It sounds like those who took part in this celebration of nature on Wednesday had a ball. The weather shone and the gardens were impressive. Thanks to Ray Watson for organising it.

16.01.2022 LEDGE POINT AND LANCELIN TO GET BOAT RAMPS! Tonight the Shire of Gingin voted to uphold the Minister for Transport, Bill Marmion's, recommendation that Ledge P...oint be the site for an ocean boat launching facility. BUT, Lancelin will also be the recipient of a more basic boat ramp in the vicinity of the current jetty much to the delight of those who haven't been game to launch from the sand. Ledge Point got the nod for the larger facility due to safety considerations with the Lancelin location (near the lead lights). Work will start straight away on design and tender documentation. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE. The Shire will undertake preliminary design work and costings for a road to run between Ledge Pt and Lancelin. This will probably take the route of the current Old Ledge Point Road which at present is a track with barely enough room for a quad bike let alone a vehicle. Long term, Ledge and Lancelin will probably merge into one city given that Lancelin South will eventually spread south to Ledge; it's owned by long-time Lancelin lover, Texan Joe Matthews. This will see the two towns joined. The Ledge facility will be positioned south of the current township and long term may even include a marina.

15.01.2022 LANCELIN COLOUR BLAST LOGISTICS It's this Saturday at 11am (register from 10am) and although the event is sold out, there may be some returns on the day so if you're in town, see the registration crew from 10am. THE ROUTE: Here it is, heading north to the point and then back to the start line in front of the tavern. ... VOLUNTEERS: We need you to throw colour at the various stations so please come join us by PMing the page with your email address. PARKING: If you're staying in town walk to the event. If you're driving, we ask you to park behind the bakery in the middle of town and walk. If you have a 4WD, park on the beach SOUTH of the jetty and if you've pre-purchased your lunch, park in the tavern if there are spaces left. STUFF: Bring your receipt, wear white ideally, protect your phone as you will get wet and be prepared to have a whole lot of fun.

14.01.2022 LANCELIN'S SWIM PLATFORM IS IN - PLS SHARE THE GOOD NEWS Less than 4 weeks ago the Lancelin District Community Association Inc decided that the district needed a swim platform in the calm waters of Lancelin Bay. Today it is up and running, much to the delight of both locals and visitors. From conception to implementation in under a month; it never happens, right? Well normally that's the case, but in this instance there were around a hundred people who felt strongly enough a...bout the project to simply make the dream a reality. Over the month, several LDCA committee members were busily working behind the scenes designing, planning and organising production of the platform. A GoFundMe campaign saw more than 50 people/organisations contribute a fair whack of the funds needed. We are still a little short of our goal so it's hoped you might step up and donate now that the platform is a reality - https://www.gofundme.com/Lancelinswimplatform Locals then organised the transport of the platform from the other side of Perth to Lancelin and then from a car park in town to the ocean where yesterday it was moored about 40m from shore just north of the jetty. The ladders were attached this morning. What has been a joy to watch, is the way the LDCA has just made this happen. Many projects like this get bogged down for a variety of reasons; red-tape, lack of funding, complaints etc., however, the need for this type of infrastructure saw all of those obstacles easily overcome by people who aren't fazed by reasons and bullshit. It should prove to be a huge hit tomorrow when nearly 1,000 people turn up for the annual Lancelin Colour Blast (https://www.lancelin.com.au/product/ldca-colour-blast/). It will be in the water during the warmer months and stored on land during winter. Thanks to all those who made it happen and quickly, please SHARE the post to let your friends know the good news. Now, who will be the first swimmer to grace it?

05.01.2022 LDCA SWIM PLATFORM ARRIVES IN TOWN This 4m x 4m swim platform arrived in Lancelin the other day and will be moored in the bay soon, hopefully! Exactly when wi...ll be determined by you. YES YOU! The LDCA is still $2,650 short (the value of the 2 ladders needed). Kids in particular are going to love this bit of kit, adults aren't going to be any less enthusiastic about it. In 17 days the public and many businesses have tipped in just over $5,000, most of it coming via this GoFundMe campaign - https://www.gofundme.com/Lancelinswimplatform Once we hit the target figure, the platform will be installed. There is a real chance that it could be in by Friday next week IF YOU CAN HELP OUT. But you actually need to click on this link to help - https://www.gofundme.com/Lancelinswimplatform A number of businesses have already donated time and money like Lancelin Mechanical, Lancelin Trade and Rural Supplies, Have A Chat, Letizia Palmer Accountants, Tony Dolton Transport, Suntique, Lobbster Trap, Lancelin Post Office & General Store, Offshore Cafe and Messages On Hold. A number of local crayfishermen have also helped, e.g. Glen Scaddan, John Abbott and Clint Moss. They have much to gain by many of the youngsters who currently jump from the jetty moving north to the swim platform. Others like Tina Broughton, David Willison, Russell Shaw and 35 or so others have bumped up the total. If you can't donate, can you please SHARE this and hopefully others who stand to benefit will take up the challenge. Let's hope we're jumping off it by Lancelin Colour Blast Day, next Saturday March 3rd. https://www.lancelin.com.au/product/ldca-colour-blast/ Kevin Ostle Paulo Fernandes Nick Triantafyllou

04.01.2022 NEW SIGN TO LURE MORE TOURISTS Up until yesterday, there was nothing to alert motorists heading north on Indian Ocean Drive, as to exactly what Lancelin is all about. If you didn't know the place you'd have no idea about the dunes, sandboarding, the quality of the bay, the Guinness World Records the town holds, our friendly dolphins or our renowned wind and kite-surfing status.... So at a recent Lancelin District Community Association Inc meeting, the idea was floated to promote the town on a billboard on the IOD. This would be done using images that would entice motorists to head into town to see it for themselves. That was 16 days ago. Today, that sign is now up and visible by all who head north (during daylight hours). It's located in the 90km/hr zone about 750 metres prior to the Lancelin turn-off. If you'd got a government department involved, the project would have dragged on for months and most likely, would have wound up bogged down by red tape. For that reason, the LDCA underwrote and drove the project even though it will be the businesses in town that will benefit from the increased tourist numbers. Many businesses have already agreed to chip in a lazy $100 with the LDCA picking up the shortfall. Here are the organisations/individuals who have made it possible: * Lancelin District Community Association Inc * Lancelin facebook page * Have A Chat General Store * Endeavour Tavern Lancelin * Lancelin Beach Hotel * Lancelin mechanical * Lancelin South (Maximilian Degroot Eich and Joe) * Lancelin Gull Roadhouse * Lancelin Cafe * Lobbster Trap * IGA X-Press * Lancelin Pharmacy * Lancelin Trade & Rural Supplies * Lancelin Post Office Store If you'll benefit from the increased visitor numbers and would like to chip in $100, please PM the page and we'll ensure you are acknowledged both here and on the Lancelin website - www.lancelin.com.au .

04.01.2022 LANCELIN BAY SWIM PLATFORM UPDATE With your help, the town's new swim platform will be in by Lancelin Colour Blast day, Sat March 3rd. Since launching the GoFundMe campaign last week we've had $2,600+ donated via that page and direct deposits BUT we still have a way to go and the sooner we reach our goal, the sooner it goes in.... The platform will be positioned just off shore. It'll be moored in the bay during the warmer months and stored in a Lancelin shed during winter. The Lancelin District Community Association Inc is making this happen but they need your financial assistance. There are many of you who'll use this platform and if you're one, we're asking you to help fund it. Please click here now - https://www.gofundme.com/Lancelinswimplatform If you can't donate, please help by SHARING this post as your friends may want to. There are similar swim platforms up and down our coast and they are hugely popular with locals and visitors. Lancelin deserves one and the sooner we get the funds (we're about 1/3rd the way there in less than a week), the sooner it goes in.

04.01.2022 NEW LANCELIN LOOKOUT NOW OPEN Visitors and locals will be thrilled by the upgrade to the Lancelin Lookout which was completed today. Members of the LDCA, in p...articular Jan Cardy, Andrea Moss and Kathy Thomas were instrumental in progressing the $160,000+ upgrade. $44,000 of that came from the Bendigo Bank after the LDCA enlisted their help with funding. The Shire of Gingin funded the rest and the result is impressive. Those in wheel chairs or on bikes will now be able to make it up to the platform which is situated just north of the Lancelin Beach Hotel. There is still some work required on the dirt track that leads to the wooden ramp on the north side but that shouldn’t be too far away. On the south side, the new wooden staircase is a marked improvement over the sand track that was previously there. Congrats to all involved!

01.01.2022 HUGE EXPOSURE FOR LANCELIN Here's a comprehensive article about the recent Lancelin Off Road Muster appearing on 4X4 Australia's website. With this and the ensuing print article in their magazine, it's fair to say this will be seen by more than half a million people. You'll note the figure of 449 vehicles mentioned at the end. This is one more than we quoted on the day. This came about by virtue of the fact that the original count did not including the final vehicle, the 4WD ...Lancelin ambulance. Later while compiling our evidence and watching the start and finish videos, we picked up the discrepancy and have put this figure (449) to Guinness. They now look at all the evidence and hopefully by Christmas (time moves slowly in GWR land) we'll know if our gargantuan effort has been recognised. The LDCA has received such positive feedback that whether or not we get the official record, almost all of this year's participants have stated they want to do it again, but even bigger. Well done to all!
