25.01.2022 INDIAN OCEAN ROADBLOCK TO FINISH WA's Premier Mark McGowan has just announced that Lancelin will be open to Perth people (and vice versa) from Monday, May 18. ...This is great news! The roadblock on Indian Ocean Drive will be dismantled next Sunday night and travel between Perth and the wheatbelt will be permitted. There are still restrictions on travel between 4 regions not affecting Lancelin/Perth. Click here for the government's statement - https://www.wa.gov.au//covid-19-coronavirus-regional-trave Lancelin restaurants, pubs and cafes will also be able to re-open on Monday May 18. This means you'll be able to dine in at Lancelin's eateries (max 20 people at 4sq/m per person) from tomorrow week. The max number of people in groups will be set at 20 people for other social gatherings. WA's border with the eastern states will remain closed and be the last restriction to be lifted.
25.01.2022 SPREADING HER WINGS IN HAROLD PARK These giant wings are a brand new attraction in Lancelin and they are already proving super popular with people of all ages. ...French traveller Louison was happy to pose for a pic in front of the brightly painted mural today. It was painted yesterday and fills most of a huge wall facing Harold Park. Pop by and take your own selfie and remember, Lancelin is open and waiting for you!
25.01.2022 CRAYBOATS IN THE MORNING LIGHT The rising sun lights up 3 of the 20 or so cray boats that call Lancelin home. About half the boats are fishing at the moment du...e to the Chinese suspending imports of our crayfish. Some of the catch is being sold locally from the back of the boat (order them here https://www.lancelin.com.au/product/live-lancelin-lobsters/ - there is still a handful left for collection tomorrow. Some is being sold frozen into Japan although at a significant discount to what the Chinese paid and the rest is being sent to Perth where it is either frozen straight away or cooked and then frozen awaiting distribution to retail outlets in Perth and elsewhere. The industry has been through tough times before, but Covid + the Chinese suspension has certainly hit the industry hard so if you like WA crays (and they are regarded as the very best) get your hands on some now, they're exceptional value at around 25/cray.

24.01.2022 Lancelin Update Jan 11, 2021 What's happening in town? Watch this and find out.
23.01.2022 WHAT’S THIS ABOUT? If you’re heading to town this weekend and walk the beach opposite Edward Island you’ll come across something unusual. This large area with t...he sand walls is where the sand from the dredging is about to be pumped. The sand wall ensures the dredged sand stays well above the high water mark while the water seeps away underneath. If and when more sand is required to shore up the area in front of Grace Darling Park, the dried, dredged sand can be used for this purpose. And note; If you’re wanting live lobsters on Friday they are available from the jetty. Book at www.lancelin.com.au/lobsters and select Fri May 22 as your pickup date. $30 per large cray.

However it will be sold at a fair and reasonable one with no agent fees. So please don’t bother calling me if you don’t have the funds available thank you. If the new potential owners wish to be provided with the true history of the properties earning capacity with evidence to back it up then that info will be disclosed but only after a good old fashioned discussion! I wish to go on record in thanking the Community of Lancelin all the special people who have helped me over the past 11years in maintaining and improving the property. 22.01.2022 SAVAGE WEATHER CLAIMS YACHT This yacht was found washed up on the beach just north of the bay in front of the lead lights this morning. It has been moored out t...owards Lancelin Island for some weeks now, however, the powerful winds and big swell over the past 24 hours have taken their toll on the craft as you can see. Efforts are being made to contact the owner and until he or she has been notified, the boat will sit where it is.
22.01.2022 LANCELIN UPDATE JAN 23, 2021 In this edition we look at the Australia Day weekend, the Shire's decision to bulldoze a new mining track through the dunes, BEN si...gns, the new bin enclosures and more compliments of www.lancelin.com.au where you can order crayfish, book acitivities and download the Visitors' Guide. 22.01.2022 BORDER FORCE IN TOWN TODAY When Border Force rolls into the bay it attracts quite a bit of attention. It turns out the crew of 4 or 5 were on a general look a...round and spent a little time checking out the beached yacht at the north end of the bay. They realised there was nothing to see there although that boat looks like being there for some time as the owner has no insurance and the cost to re-float it is well north of $10k+. It may end up that Dept. of Transport gets involved and moves/wrecks it before invoicing the owner. It would appear doubtful they'd be reimbursed though leaving them to sell the boat for whatever they can get and probably copping a loss on the deal. Anyway, the Border Force guys spent an hour or so at the jetty and then just pottered about in the bay inspecting the cray boats before leaving our peaceful waters.
21.01.2022 SWAN IN THE SURF This lone swan has been popping up around town for a couple of weeks now but today he was working overtime bobbing about in the bay. No cray boats braved the terrible weather and the dredger has stopped dredging for the time being.

20.01.2022 FIREWORKS AT THE TAVERN TONIGHT To kick off a huge weekend in Lancelin, the Endeavour Tavern will be putting on fireworks tonight (Friday) for your entertainmen...t. They'll also have live music and all weekend they'll have a beach party atmosphere so see you there for the kick off tonight. There are still $20 tickets left for the big live family concert at the caravan park on Saturday afternoon featuring Darren Reid and the Soul City Groove, Slim Jim and the Phatts Band and DJ Cooper S - order here https://www.lancelin.com.au//lancelin-summer-family-conce/ And if you're coming up, you can order live crayfish and collect them from the jetty today, tomorrow and Sunday at prices you haven't seen for decades - https://www.lancelin.com.au/product/live-lancelin-lobsters/
19.01.2022 LANCELIN RETURNS TO NORMAL The first weekend after lockdown saw a huge influx of visitors to town. The dunes were crammed with sandboarders (lancelin.com.au/ct...ivities), the main street shops were enjoying a bump in sales and the parks were full. North of the bay along the beach, many were bogged on the soft sand as big numbers enjoyed the perfect weather that will turn savage tomorrow. Thanks to all those who got to town this weekend, we trust it was worth the wait!
19.01.2022 WILL LANCELIN FLOOD ON MONDAY? NOTE: THE PICS CAME AND WENT SO IT WAS RE-POSTED OnN THE LANCELIN FB PAGE With severe weather bearing down on us over the next fe...w days, there's every chance we'll see local flooding like the town experienced in 1964 when this pic of Lyn McSherry in a dinghy was taken. The second shot is taken from the same spot on Gingin Road, just north of Have A Chat General Store. That year rain and seas combined to flood that area. The peak of the storm will be on Monday around noon according to current forecasts when there'll be a 9m swell, a high tide and very strong winds. That will be most interesting. I can't see that stricken yacht north of town surviving those seas and there's a real chance the Volunteer Marine Rescue building at Grace Darling Park could also succumb. And there's every chance the sea will reach Cunliffe Street via Hopkins Street and the two paths north of that that run from the beach. And on top of that there's a total fire ban today and tomorrow in the region.
18.01.2022 LANCELIN'S NEW BEACHFRONT POOL This was the sight yesterday afternoon at the point opposite Edwards Island. The company doing the dredging at the jetty had cr...eated a 1.5m high sand wall and was pumping the dredged sand and water from near the jetty, a kilometre south . The water then filled up the makeshift pool and then late in the afternoon, the water was funnelled back out to the beach leaving just the sand. But for a while we had a sizeable beachfront pool in front of the Experience Lancelin caravan park which I might add, is full this weekend. We welcome you all back to town if you're heading up for the weekend.

17.01.2022 DRAMATIC DUNE DIFFERENCE The top shot was taken a few days ago with clear skies and no wind. The second shot was taken yesterday morning with dark skies and a howling souwester. The skies are still grey this morning but the wind has calmed right down thankfully.

16.01.2022 WELL THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY 40 minutes prior to the sun hitting the horizon the sky was looking grey and dead. And then, BANG! Glorious, rich light for all to... enjoy. A reminder that you can purchase sandboards at https://www.lancelin.com.au/product/sandboards-for-sale/ - great Chrissie gifts for the adventurous at heart.

14.01.2022 About 400 tonnes of WA lobster was sold into the domestic market during December January of approximately 900,000 crayfish as ac result of the legislation all...owing back of boat sales. The back-of-boat program saw 50,000 local sales since September, with 75 per cent of that during December and the first week of January 2021 . One of the biggest amount of sales occurred in Lancelin. There is no doubt the local consumer has been the big winner here closely followed by the Crayfishers that have been supported by local buying . What was China's loss was our big gain and thanks for supporting our local fishers ! Please remember our crayfishers have been out since 3am fishing and it's back breaking hard work so, please if you book Crays be there on time to pick them up The Crayfishers are reporting late collection keeping them waiting or even worse no shows and the product goes to waste, so keep your word and be on time and follow through please Boosting local supply not only kept commercial fishers on the water, but also made more lobster available for the WA community, Fisheries Minister Peter Tinley said.
14.01.2022 HERE'S CHEERS BIG EARS! It's great to see people back in town after 47 days of lockdown. This was the scene at lunch at the Endeavour Tavern this afternoon wh...ere 20 people were enjoying lunch and a drink in the beer garden where the view, albeit slightly obscured by the mandatory fence around the garden, is world class. The Lancelin Beach Hotel is also open for food and drinks along with the cafes around town and on a day like today, there are few better places to be than on the beach under clear skies.
13.01.2022 LIVE LOBSTERS A HUGE HIT Last week this page launched a unique initiative connecting local commercial lobster fishermen with local buyers, and wasn't it a hit! ...Buyers went to https://www.lancelin.com.au/product/live-lancelin-lobsters/ and ordered/paid for their lobsters on-line. They then met the boat at the jetty and collected their prized seafood and at wholesale prices. However, demand quickly outweighed supply and while it was thought there would be enough tags to last 4 or 5 weeks, it now appears that they will run out this week. It's not yet clear when fisherman will be fishing due to the weather but details will be posted here and on the town's website, www.lancelin.com.au the moment it's confirmed after which you can order on line. Here are some of the happy buyers yesterday with the world's best produce. One of these pics shows a blue LLP (local lobster program) tag attached to a lobster. Each fisherman received 100 of these a while back. When he catches a lobster he wants to sell locally, he must attach the tag to one of the cray's antennae and then break the end segment of the antennae off. This program expires in September, HOWEVER, Fisheries are moving quickly to introduce a new system that would see every boat able to sell up to 100 lobsters per landing direct to the public. These lobsters will come out of their quota though so prices may be different to what buyers paid this week. When this new system is employed you will still be able to order through the lancelin website and fishermen can't take a punt on bringing in lobsters that have not been pre-sold. Happy days!
13.01.2022 JETTY COPS IT WORST The Met Bureau say Lancelin is experiencing a swell of 9+ metres at present although looking to sea it doesn't look quite that big. But wha...tever size it is, it is certainly enough to cover Lancelin's jetty from all sides. It was quite an attraction too with a steady flow of people popping down for a look.
12.01.2022 QUIRKY LANCELIN There are plenty of surfboards out the front of this home in Wedge Avenue and in the late afternoon they are perfectly lit. A reminder that the ...Lancelin Visitors' Guide is not only downloadable at www.lancelin.com.au, it's also in most of the tourist centres north and south of the town. Download your copy or pick up a hard copy and see you soon. See more
12.01.2022 Lancelin to Wedge Island via the beach This drive takes about 45 minutes and is best done with tyres at 15psi or thereabouts, particularly when the beach is soft. Enjoy.
11.01.2022 COLLECT YOUR LIVE CRAYS ON TUESDAY China's loss is your gain, with live crayfish/lobsters available from the Lancelin jetty again this Tuesday, Nov 17. 09.01.2022 A NEW BORDER It looks like Water Corp is fencing its land out at the dunes with what appears to be a stylish boundary fence running several hundred metres. Work has been going on for a while now and this is what the area looked like this morning.

05.01.2022 SUPER SUNSET Much colour in the sky as the sun set over the ocean tonight. It's worth keeping an eye out for the moonrise which happens at 7.18pm. It's nearly full and will be bright and orange as it rises over land.
04.01.2022 CAN YOU PICK THE DIFFERENCE? The "whites" are about to migrate out to deeper water. But what is a "white"? It's a crayfish that's malted its shell to reveal a n...ew layer of pinkish white. The cray on the right is a white. The white run sees WA's crayfish population move from the shallow waters of the coast to the deep water of the continental shelf. This is when the majority of WA's crays are caught and it normally kicks off around the time of the last full moon in November; very shortly. Both amateurs and pros will be seeing plenty of crays in their pots coming up to Christmas. If you can't catch your own, remember you can buy live crays direct from the boat with Friday Nov 27th being the next fishing day. Order 350-450gram crays for $25 here - https://www.lancelin.com.au/product/live-lancelin-lobsters/ If you want crays leading up to Christmas, please pre-register here - https://www.lancelin.com.au/live-lancelin-lobsters-for-chr/ and you'll receive email notification the moment Christmas crays become available.
04.01.2022 CRAZY FOR CRAYS With the Chinese suspending imports of WA lobsters some local fishermen have turned their attention to local sales under the recently introduced... Back of the Boat program. You can now pre-order for next Tuesday at the SHOP at www.Lancelin.com.au Yesterday there was a gaggle of happy seafood lovers on the jetty waiting for the boat. The mechanics of the scheme mean that when the boat docks, the sealed baskets of lobsters are weighed on the jetty and then must sit for 10 minutes before being opened. This is so that Fisheries officers can inspect the catch if they choose. After that, those who've pre-ordered their live crays/lobsters via the Lancelin website can pick them from the basket and walk away with a beaming grin. China's suspension of lobster imports has meant they are now sourcing product from elsewhere, including New Zealand. One source suggested that they were paying upwards of $110/kilo for NZ lobsters. Someone also stated that the NZ product is slightly different to ours, apparently sweeter. Can a lobster expert confirm if that's correct?

03.01.2022 AN ORANGE GLOW Did you see tonight's sunset over the bay? It was impressive with the sun beaming through smoke from a prescribed burn. You'll want to book your sandboards though as it's going to be super busy - www.lancelin.com.au/activities See more
