25.01.2022 Poorly drained rail ballast as on the bridge, is a classic location for weed invasion, compared to the newly restored profile in the foreground. Vegetation in the ballast causes a number of maintenance issues, primarily, it enhances the risk of mud holes. #railwayweedcontrol #railweedspraying #railweed #weedcontrol #weed #weedmapping #weedspraying #rightofwayclearing #permanentway

25.01.2022 It looks like a quiet suburban road but is actually Bayswater road Croydon, and is quite busy. To protect the work site we used the directional indicator arrows and also had a Stop/Slow operator behind the vehicle, advising drivers of upcoming works. Care was taken in herbicide selection, as all the road drains feed into the waterways. #waterways #weedcontrol #weeding #weeds #weedmapping #weedspraying #ecology #environment #roadworks

25.01.2022 A couple of unwelcome plant species, which were treated very late but at least have been controlled. #weedcontrol #weed #weedmapping #weedspraying #ecology #environment #fleabane #spearthistle

23.01.2022 The machine operator, Melissa, is spreading mulch in the Mullum Mullum reserve in preparation for planting in winter. It was a busy location, with many walkers and cyclists, and so Melissa needed to monitor traffic before she made any moves. #revegetation #ecology #environment #weedcontrol #weedmapping #weedspraying #trails #mullummullumcreektrail

21.01.2022 Are they weeds or is it 'weed'? A few pots of what is taken to be cannabis sativa hidden from view but not from the weed control crew. The tricky question was, do you spray them or brushcut? Brushcut was our response, as a joint with a little glyphosate didn't seem right. #weedcontrol #weed #weedmapping #weedspraying #railwayweedcontrol #rightofwayclearing #ecology #environment #railweedspraying #railweed

21.01.2022 Vegetation growth in rail infrastructure is relatively easy to manage but if overlooked, can cause train slippage and braking issues, obscures the fittings from regular inspection, blocks track drainage, can become a hazard to crew and ultimately is a fire risk. Routine asset inspection will assess and identify the risk and schedule timely maintenance. #weedcontrol #weed #weedspraying #weedmapping #railway #railweed #railweedspraying #railweedspraying #ryegrass

17.01.2022 We've just started working in this bushland setting in Knox and have found a few remnants of creative relaxation. It's a pity the users don't take their couches that they used away, after the good time. Our role is not all weed control, we deal with this as well. 17.01.2022 The delicate hanging white flowers of angled onion are predominant in many areas ovrrlooked by the Dandenong Ranges. But in many areas, they can't be allowed to remain as a bushland invader. It would be great if you could just treat them, but in many areas, its hand pulling! The crew had a full day of it, and loaded the utility with plants for disposal. #weed #weedcontrol #weedspraying #weedmapping #bushlandmanagement #bushregeneration #bush #angledonion

12.01.2022 Naturally we take safety very seriously; we check the characteristics of the chemical products that we are using, we make sure that we have the right PPE and ensure that the area is safe to apply in. 'Safe to apply in' took on another dimension recently when we were working for the Melbourne Zoo. Fortunately, we did not need to watch our step, as the carnivores were locked away but were very close at hand, and their behavior is definitely that you were prey. I have yet to adjust our SWMS methodology to allow for carnivore issues but in full reality, the keepers make sure that we don't go where we shouldn't.#weedcontrol#weeding#weeds#weedspraying#weedmapping#zoo#ecology#environment

10.01.2022 Sometimes you need to bring in some gear to get the job done. Mulching of a site at Ringwood North in preparation for a volunteer group planting day, required the spreading of 40 to 50 cubic meters of mulch. #weedmapping #weed #weedcontrol #environment #weedspraying #bushland #revegetation #ecology #nativevege

09.01.2022 Just amazing the vigour of bushland plantings in Maroondah. We prepped a site along the Dandenong creek approximately two years ago for a community planting, and the response has been phenominal. The new growth now links in well with the established canopy. #dandenongcreektrail #revegetation #nativeplants #weedcontrol #weed #weedmapping #weedspraying #ecology #environment

08.01.2022 Summer is over but with the mild conditions the growth had been prolific. Physical removal sometimes the best option, particularly in an increasingly higher profile waterway. 07.01.2022 Orange hawkweed, some isolated plants fortunately found prior to flowering. The leaves are noticeably hairy but we have observed a slight variation for the same species elsewhere in Victoria, that had more prominent hairs on the upper surface. It is important that the crew closely distinguished other native (non weedy) species present that also have prominent leaf hairs. 07.01.2022 The last rush of the summer season. The weed cover is more advanced than ideal but it was programmed work and with treatment will diminish in size. #weedcontrol #weedmapping #weedspraying #environment #ecology #agronomy #railwayweedcontrol #railway

06.01.2022 A pit stop on track to refill the main vehicle undertaking strategic knockdown of weedy vegetation along the rail line to Albury. #railweedspraying #railweed #railway #railwayweedcontrol #fireprevention #weedcontrol #weed #weedmapping #weedspraying #permanentway

04.01.2022 A forest of fleabane, fortunately showing a good response to treatment 5 days after application. The level of invasion impacting on the physical use of the assets and making use of the site difficult and a safety risk. #weedcontrol #weed #weedmapping #weedspraying #railwayweedcontrol #rightofwayclearing #railweedspraying #ecology #environment #fleabane

04.01.2022 This project has intense safety parameters with significant traffic to manage but also some weed invasion including fleabane, diminishing the appeal of the centre median gardens. #weedcontrol #weed #weedmapping #weedspraying #ecology #environment #permanentway #roadworks #fleabane

02.01.2022 Some spring colour, orange hi-vis, flashing orange directional arrows, fixed standing signage and a following protective vehicle, with a backdrop flush of yellow acacia. Timely roadside weed control is important, as are the protection levels needed for the crew to operate safely on a roadway, but it would be easy to miss the natural surrounding colours. #weedcontrol #weedspraying #weedmapping #roadworks

02.01.2022 Angled onion (A. triquetrun) emergence has been very strong in Melbourne's east this spring and is particularly noticeable invading bushland. Several techniques were evaluated from knockdown spraying where appropriate, to a combination of selective spraying followed by patch burning to remove the onion and other exotics. #bushlandmanagement #angledonion #WeedControl #weedmapping #bush #weedspraying #revegetation

02.01.2022 The beauty and ruggedness of Moint Buller. We occasionally take the time to enjoy the natural beauty of some of the areas that we work in. James #weedcontrol #weed #weedmapping #weedspraying #orangehawkweed #ecology #environment #alpinerehabilitation #alpineweed
