21.01.2022 Length of Neck & Training for Wellness. Manolo always says that you want "long the neck, short the body. He must have said this a million times since the seven...ties. This is to say you want more horse in front of the saddle then behind the saddle. This becomes even more important as the horse progresses and collection is introduced. The shape of the neck and topline changes: There is less horse behind the saddle because the horse coils its loin and flexes its joints, there is more horse in front of the saddle because the horse’s neck (entire front end) has to arc to accommodate and balance the lowering of the haunches behind - a new posture of the entire body. Manolo sometimes asks: If you shorten the horse’s neck where does it go? His simplified answer is that the length of neck that is being shortened by the actions of the rider comes out the back and results in trailing hocks (and a dropped or rigid back). The horse’s body is no longer working as one, in harmony. The backend becomes disconnected from the front end and is having to work beyond its healthy capacity, creating a cascade of potentially laming and certainly painful consequences for the whole horse’s body (and mind). In this photo, the beautiful stallion Elmo is coming back to work after an injury and Manolo is focusing on helping him move without holding his breath, freely and without tension and in independent balance- none of this being achievable with a short, contracted, overarched, curled or shortened neck. Want to see Manolo teaching and training almost live? We have been posting dozens of videos and posts here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/OnTheRoadWithManoloMendez/ If you are interested in this way of training, Manolo has a very informative website with a dozen plus free training articles. He also has a 3 hour intro to in-hand work, good posture and movement DVD with a large private FB group where members can ask in-hand and training questions. www.manolomendezdressage.com Reprint from 2018-2017

09.01.2022 A reminder to all that if you live within metropolitan Melbourne or Mitchell Shire, you must wear a face covering whenever you leave your home, unless an except...ion applies. A face covering needs to cover both your nose and mouth. It could be a face mask or shield. With regard to wearing a mask during SPORTING ACTIVITY, the DHHS website states the following exemptions: - Professional sportspeople when training or competing. - When the individual is doing any exercise or physical activity where they are out of breath or puffing; examples include jogging or running but not walking. You must have a face covering on you and wear it when you finish exercising. REMEMBER THAT WHENEVER YOU LEAVE YOUR HOME YOU ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A FACE COVERING THAT COVERS BOTH YOUR NOSE AND MOUTH. Similarly, if you live outside metropolitan Melbourne or Mitchell Shire and must travel inside these areas, for necessary goods and services, medical care and caregiving, or study or work, you MUST WEAR A FACE COVERING. Please visit the DHHS website for complete information around this new condition that came into force at midnight 22 July night. https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au//face-coverings-1159pm-wednesd #staysafe #equestrianvictoria
