23.01.2022 Both of Pacific Seeds two new hybrids, Halifax and Resolute are looking very good indeed. No Helicoverpa or Fall Armyworm sprays have been required during this cropping phase. Will be interesting to see these hybrids perform over the wet season dry land plant.

23.01.2022 Plenty of Fall Armyworm around the district at the moment, particularly in corn crops. Ensure that crops are being checked weekly to determine FAW numbers and any effects on reproductive tissue. When crops start to silk, previously entrenched FAW larvae become vulnerable/exposed for a couple of days before heading for developing cobs. As cobs develop, ensure that you are checking between the stalk and the back of the cob and also behind the cob leaf itself.

22.01.2022 Think you have issues with FAW? These corn plants emerged 10 days ago at the DAF research farm. Incredible larvae pressure at 9 per plant. Many plants have died with larvae observed crawling all over the ground looking for food.

19.01.2022 Target spot - Corynespora cassiicola, found in Kuranda soybean on two different farms. Extended periods of rainfall, high humidity and warm temperatures are conducive for disease development. The fungus can be soil-borne and may spread in the wind, rain and in infected seed. Contact your Nutrien Ag Solutions agronomist for further advice regarding Target spot.

17.01.2022 Planting Kuranda soybean today.

17.01.2022 moment inspecting maize today. Very low larvae activity in the silks, but if you peel back the cob leaf.......FAW.

16.01.2022 Fall Armyworm activity in P1477W corn in the Osborne area, Home Hill.

16.01.2022 The new rice variety NQ1 was a standout during a recent field walk. YRL39 (reselected), NQ2 & NQ3 impressed also. The future of North QLD’s rice industry looks very positive based on this showing.

15.01.2022 Australian farmers have been working harder than ever as the COVID-19 pandemic has swept the nation. Today, Nutrien Ag Solutions is proud to support the #BackOn...Track campaign, officially launched today by the National Farmers' Federation, which captures the stories of six farmers as they have overcome the challenges of the pandemic. It highlights the extraordinary efforts of these farmers and how they are playing a role in shaping Australia’s future. Read their stories here: https://bit.ly/3mBriMB See more

14.01.2022 Dryland chickpea rows are starting to close in nicely as early flowering (R1), commences. Within the next week we should observe the formation of pods (pod set). The seed then fills over the next 3-4 weeks. After pod set, the pod wall grows rapidly for the first two weeks whilst seed growth mainly occurs later. Twice weekly crop inspections have now started to closely monitor insects & disease.

09.01.2022 winter planted Kuranda soybeans emerging well after a recent irrigation to help elevate effects of stubble clumping and hair-pinning from previous crop residues. Plant counts to be conducted next week to assess targeted population vs established population.

07.01.2022 Some farmers in the Burdekin have been advised to burn their corn stubble in order to kill FAW, otherwise they will just hang around and breed up. This is wrong on so many levels and just dumb advice. Instead you should incorporate residues, reform beds and then plant soybeans.

07.01.2022 On this day, Nutrien Ag Solutions would like to acknowledge the brave soldiers that fought for us so that we could live freely today. They shall not grow old, ...as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. Lest we forget. #Anzacday See more
