22.01.2022 #Manganese in #Lupins We know lupins are responsive to Mn, and that high concentration in grain = good quality seed therefore it is important to have a good supply of Mn to lupin seed crops. But how much, and how do I apply it? ... We tried to answer that question at #Geraldton in 2019. We did not get a yield response due to the poor finish to the season, but there were some interesting results for Mn in grain. The data shows that a lot of Mn is required to reach an acceptable grain concentration, and that Nutrisync D may be useful in helping achieve that. Located 20km west of Mullewa and 80km east of Geraldton, ‘Jenora’’ comprises of 1,500 arable hectares of easy working and predominantly yellow sandplain soil, with lesser areas of red/brown loam and gravelly loam. With this grain goes nutrients. The estimated 30 million tonne wheat harvest this year will remove roughly 90,000 tonnes of phosphorus, 150,000 tonnes of potassium and a lot more nitrogen.... Are you removing more than you are putting back, and what are the consequences of this? Key points Assess if you are re-supplying removed nutrients in your fertiliser program - what is the consequence if not? There is a wide variation of nutrient concentration in many crop removal products - tissue tests will confirm. Replacing removed nutrients may not be enough, but it is a good minimum target in many cases.
