21.01.2022 What is PTSD? Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a particular set of reactions that can develop in people who have been through a traumatic event which threatened their life or safety, or that of others around them. A perceived threat can have the same effect as a real threat. There is no sure cure for PTSD. Some recover over months or years. For some, the symptoms persist and they learn to manage them. For some, the symptoms may improve but they never fully recov...er. PTSD may be compensable if a person or entity was responsible. Examples of events which can result in compensable PTSD are motor vehicle accidents, work accidents, and assaults. There are time limits on these types of claims. Because a great many people suffer the symptoms in silence, they lose the opportunity to make a claim which could provide them with funds to have the best treatment currently available. If you have a loved one who doesn't seem themselves, go with them to a trusted GP and ask for a counselling referral. Your loved one may not want to talk to anyone but if their condition is not linked to the compensable event early, they may lose their opportunity to be properly compensated and get the help they need. Landmark Lawyers offers obligation free initial consultations in relation to incidents where there are prospects of compensation. We are often first contacted by a family member in cases where the injured person is not up to making the initial contact. We do not raise false hope. We take on cases with strong prospects of succeeding and where there is an insurer required to cover any award made by the court or out of court settlement. For someone suffering PTSD, talking to a lawyer about their condition can be too difficult to contemplate. We acknowledge how hard it is and have strategies to help with the process. In recent years, we have achieved some good results for people suffering PTSD. While a settlement is not a cure, receiving a payout can help to make up for time lost from the workforce and with the cost of future treatment. https://www.beyondblue.org.au//anxie/types-of-anxiety/ptsd

08.01.2022 It is illegal to claim a person is an independent contractor when they do not meet the criteria. An employee injured at work who has been told they are an independent contractor should check if they meet the criteria before deciding whether or not they are entitled to lodge a claim with WorkCover. Fair Work can help. https://www.fairwork.gov.au/find-he/independent-contractors
