Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a particular set of reactions that can develop in people who have been through a traumatic event which threatened their life or safety, or that of others around them. A perceived threat can have the same effect as a real threat. There is no sure cure for PTSD. Some recover over months or years. For some, the symptoms persist and they learn to manage them. For some, the symptoms may improve but they never fully recov...er. PTSD may be compensable if a person or entity was responsible. Examples of events which can result in compensable PTSD are motor vehicle accidents, work accidents, and assaults. There are time limits on these types of claims. Because a great many people suffer the symptoms in silence, they lose the opportunity to make a claim which could provide them with funds to have the best treatment currently available. If you have a loved one who doesn't seem themselves, go with them to a trusted GP and ask for a counselling referral. Your loved one may not want to talk to anyone but if their condition is not linked to the compensable event early, they may lose their opportunity to be properly compensated and get the help they need.
