25.01.2022 Over the last few weeks we have been exploring different Primary School settings and discussing what the children who are transitioning to Prep next year might experience at these locations. We have explored Miss Lucy many different photos from each of our feeder schools and we have been noting similarities and differences between these campuses and our Kindy here at Landsborough. With this growing interest, we have introduced Prep Uniforms to the play space and the childr...en have independently resourced these to initiate their own dramatic role play. Today we saw the children sharing the roles of both teachers and students within this play, and together they independently navigated their involvement and participation within this. The children are creatively exploring new experiences and building upon that which is familiar to them using this play sequence. They are also peer learning as they collaborate with their friends and at times mimic their perspectives. We will continue to support the children's transition to Prep next year and the following. We have invited several Prep teachers to visit our service and meet with the children and answer some of our questions or uncertainties. We will also be reading different social stories about starting new schools, and participating in more group discussions about this transition.

24.01.2022 I love Kindy because... We have been in conversation with the children about their favourite areas, experiences and parts of their kindy life. The voices of the Kindy children are so important in curriculum decision making, planning for learning spaces and in creating routines in our kindy day that support the values of our community of learners.... What do you like about Kindy? What are your favourite things to do at Kindy? Who do you love to play with at Kindy? What do you look forward to in your Kindy day?

19.01.2022 Many people have kids with Sensory Processing Disorder and don't know there's a reason for their behaviors (and believe it or not, many adults have it and don't... know... that was me a few years ago! ) So... here's a post explaining it a little bit. ***Note that SPD is complicated and can look different in every person who has it. This is a list of POSSIBLE ways it can manifest... and it's important to note that many who have it exhibit a mix of responses from both sides.*** You can download a printable version of this and find some more SPD resources at nicolefilipponeauthor.com #sensorystories #sensorysupport #sensorylife #sensoryavoider #sensorysensitive #sensoryseeker #sensoryseeking #sensoryanxiety #spdawareness #sensoryprocessingdisorder #sensoryprocessingdisorderparentsupport #autismawareness #autismacceptance #autismsupport #autismeducation #autismspectrum #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #neurodiversityacceptance #occupationaltherapy #otforkids #occupationaltherapist

16.01.2022 Process Art is art that is child-directed, choice-driven, and celebrates the experience of discovery. In process art, the final product is always unique and the focus lies in the creation of the work, not the outcome. Through process art, children - Think creatively, independently, and imaginatively will learn about the physical limitations and possibilities of materials.... - Are encouraged to use creative and critical thinking skills. will gain confidence to realize their own ideas. - Are motivated to ask questions and experiment. - Embrace experimentation and mistakes as part of the learning process. 16.01.2022 We are increasingly interested in gross motor challenges particularly in relation to balance and coordination. Today we passed the foam dice around the circle using only our feet! This movement strengthens our core which in turn impacts so many other learning skill sets! Why is core strength so important? It is the foundation for children to be able to assume and maintain an upright posture whilst standing and sitting without support. If a child has poor core strength, they will therefore have difficulty controlling fine motor skills, such as handwriting, and participating in gross motor activities like team sport.
15.01.2022 Tis the Season! We are participating in this years community Festival of Trees. A Christmas tree has been delivered to us at Kindy and we are preparing to decorate it using beautiful foraged treasures from nature. Once decorated our tree will go on display at a community space for all to enjoy.
15.01.2022 It is paradoxical that many still differentiate between a time for learning and a time for play without seeing the vital connection between them. - Leo Buscaglia

01.01.2022 Recent inquiry of cubby building and house design has led to many collaborative moments. This design features a firewood storage area and an open fire to cook on!
