22.01.2022 These are the Afters.

22.01.2022 OK we have another job that I would like to share as I sit here on the comfy chair, rain pouring down outside. I will include a series of photos showing what was done. The problem was that there was rising damp happening on this East Fremantle slope with the Southern side of dwelling on the street suffering from it. The houses were older and had poor resistance to the damp. My clients neighbour wished to have access to the Southern wall adjacent to his driveway so that th...e damp proofing could be done. Photos show the debris and various items down the gap. Our job was to remove the existing wall to enable the damp proofing to be done and then rebuild in stone. The process is shown including the gate that was purpose built for the space. See more

21.01.2022 OK, here we have a wall that was built a long time ago, say 100 odd years ago on Fremantle. It had become part of a community and lies on a boundary line in a relatively new group of dwellings. The problem is that , over time and bearing in mind walls construction, there is a problem related to its survival. It is falling apart. This was and is a rubble wall built from odd lumps of limestone. It was strong and built with skill and patience. It also played a part in clearing up an adjacent area of loose surface stone and rubble at the time. We filled the holes and damaged areas with limestone chunks along with a concrete made using small aggregate and bondcrete. The next day we returned and , at the clients request sealed it off with a slurry using a combination of grey and cream cement. Hopefully it will stand for a while longer.

16.01.2022 Photos taken North of Perth near Cue , an abandoned mining town. Just shows how long a stone structure will last when basic principles are followed.Always lay the upper stone over the gap between the two lower ones. I wonder where the stone came from...?

08.01.2022 Friend of mine, Abe is in Portugal at the moment. He sent me this shot of a stone building. Fascinating how the corner blocks are placed and crafted leaving the remainder of the structure to be stable even though the stones are not that well integrated.

08.01.2022 Here we have some stonework of a utilitarian type.We found this stock drinking and loading area up at Ningham station recently. The stone can be found lying on the large Granite outcrops where chunks have separated from the mother mass over millions of years.

04.01.2022 Limestone SPAWL wall needed to be a little higher.
