19.01.2022 Today kicks off #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth (#DV). To this day, there is a common misconception about #DomesticViolence. The first is that DV only involves... physical abuse. I have never been hit but I can tell you, my DV wounds run deep. The second is that once you leave, you are safe and free. That is the farthest thing from the truth -- especially if there are children involved. Post separation brings a new avenue of abuse -- using the children and the Family Court system in a variety of ways. We have been talking about abuse for generations and yet it is still happening. It is happening to the rich and the poor - and everyone in between. It is happening in every culture -- no one is immune. It is happening to those without college educations -- and it is happening to those with doctorate degrees. The family court system sees an abuser and orders 12-months of anger management classes...and expects everyone to sing "Kumbaya" together on Sunday night. Newsflash - that doesnt work nor will a lifetime of classes cure an abuser. An abuser knows how to manage their anger - case in point, they manage to keep it behind closed doors. We need to continue to raise awareness of DV BUT we also have to educate the Family Court System on Cluster B disorders because THIS is the common denominator in most high-conflict divorces. We have been "talking about it" for generations but are we making progress? Sadly, we are NOT. Visit our website www.onemomsbattle.com to learn more about our mission to educate the Family Court system on #PostSeparationAbuse #OMB #NarcissisticAbuse #MoveToEndDV #NPD #NarcissisticPersonalityDisorder #FamilyCourt #divorce #ChildCustody

14.01.2022 Due to forecast weather conditions, Tasmania Fire Service will not be issuing fire permits in any Southern region municipalities from Monday afternoon until mid...night on Tuesday. Any fire permits already issued for fires during that period are suspended as conditions will be outside prescriptions for safe burning. The risk to the community of issuing permits to allow landowners to conduct burns on their property is too great with Very High Fire Danger ratings expected, which include strong winds and no forecast rain. Every reasonable attempt must be made to extinguish fires that are currently burning and if they are unable to be extinguished they must be monitored at all times until the fire is completely out. People should also reconsider the need to burn piles of vegetation of a cubic metre or less, which is usually allowed without a permit. In these conditions only one strong gust of wind could pose a risk. Members of the public with further questions about the permit embargo can phone 1800 000 699. To report a fire, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. The municipalities affected by the permit embargo are: Brighton, Central Highlands, Clarence, Derwent Valley, Glamorgan Spring Bay, Glenorchy, Hobart, Huon Valley, Kingborough, Sorell, Southern Midlands and Tasman.

12.01.2022 CAN EMERGENCY SERVICES GET TO YOU IN AN EMERGENCY? Living in a bush area a lot of us have trees around our property including where we gain access. Most allow ...access for the average car but can a fire truck get in if there is an emergency? Its just not about making sure the entrance is wide enough but if the access above is clear. Below gives you an idea the approximate size of fire truck. Have a look at your access points and see if we can get to you in an emergency.

09.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service has declared a total fire ban this Friday for all municipalities in the southern region. This is because high temperatures are expected to... push the fire danger rating into Very High and Severe in several areas. The declaration of a Total Fire Ban means it is illegal to light or cause a fire in the open air, including incinerators, burn-offs, campfires, fire pots, and wood-fuelled barbecues. The total fire ban will be in force in the following municipalities from 2am Friday 20 December until 2am Saturday 21 December: Brighton, Central Highlands, Clarence, Derwent Valley, Glamorgan-Spring Bay, Glenorchy, Hobart, Huon Valley, Kingborough, Sorell, Southern Midlands, and Tasman. More information on Total Fire Bans and incidents in your area can be found at www.fire.tas.gov.au or by listening to ABC Local Radio.
07.01.2022 Reminder there is a Total Fire Ban in place until tomorrow afternoon.

06.01.2022 From Thursday 25 October, anyone wishing to light a fire in the open in the listed municipalities must apply for a free permit to do so. While the fire permit p...eriod is in place the following will apply: People intending to light a fire for burning vegetation or a similar purpose must obtain a permit. People intending to light a fire at a sawmill or factory for burning wood waste or other flammable material must obtain a permit. People intending to light a fire for cooking, warmth or disposal or garden waste do not require a permit provided that: The fire is not lit in peat, humus or marram grass The fire is attended by a responsible adult at all times until it is extinguished. All flammable material is removed at least three metres radius around the fire It is less than one cubic metre in size Check with your local council for additional burning restrictions. NOTE: Some Local Government authorities prohibit backyard burning in residential areas. Campfires and barbeques do not require a permit. However, people must remain in attendance at all times while any fires remain alight and ensure they are completely extinguished before leaving unattended. For information on how to obtain a fire permit free call 1800 000 699 or visit www.fire.tas.gov.au If a fire does escape, call Triple Zero (000) immediately so emergency services can respond and minimise the damage.
