23.01.2022 Steel Prince The Andrew Ramsden Stakes is to be run at Flemington tomorrow - Saturday 25/5/19 at 4.05pm EST. It is win and your in the 2019 Melbourne Cup f...or the winner of this race. I expect Runaway and Transact to lead most (if not all) the way. But there are some really interesting horses in the race and Im sure it will be a great contest. Im certainly going to be watching Eastender, Alfaris, Azuro and Sheezdashing as well as the in form favourite and Adelaide Cup winner Surprise Baby who I expect will come from the back of the field. But the horse I have developed a Melbourne Cup strategy around is Steel Prince. From his last 10 starts hes won six races and finished second four times. (I love consistent horses!) One of those seconds was in the 2800m race at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day last year when he finished second to the subsequent 2019 Sydney Cup winner Shraaoh. In the 2019 TAB Melbourne Cup Futures market Steel Prince is currently $51 a win and $13.50 a place. I note he is only $31 with Sportsbet. Of course if Steel Prince wins on Saturday I expect this price to drop. To me Steel Prince looks like an interesting cup of coffee (just a few dollars) each way bet for the 2019 Melbourne Cup. You could possibly build a similar strategy around Surprise Baby. But the current Melbourne Cup price in the TAB Futures market for Surprise Baby is only $26.00 a win and $7.25 a place.

Did you know Francesca Cummani, extremely knowledgable daughter of rainer Luca Cummani, ...told prior to the 2013 Cup that she believed there are four factors that decides who will win the Melbourne Cup. They are Weight; Nationality; Pace and Draw. Weight: According to handicapping scale over 3200 metres one kilogram equates to about two lengths. The winning most weight in the past 38 years has been 54kgs. In this time only two horses carrying 58 kgs or more to Victory. Think Big in 1975 and Makybe Diva in 2005. Nationality: English horses have been the least successful of the international horse. From sixty one starters they are yet to win a Melbourne Cup. Pace: Traditionally the Cup is run at a fast tempo. This allows horses to take there place tucked in behind the leaders and then they finish on strongly. A slowly run race is more likely favour the leading group of horses. Draw: Logic suggests an inside barrier is preferable. Up to and including the 2013 Cup Barrier 11 is the most successful starting stall followed by barriers 10, 14 and 5. 19.01.2022 WOLFE Wolfe is not likely to get a start in the 2019 Melbourne Cup... unless he wins The Bart Cummings at Flemington tomorrow (Sat 5/10) at 5.05pm His Melbour...ne Cup Futures price is around $201 with Ladbrokes. However he is currently 3rd favourite in the Bart Cummings at $7.50. My point is if Wolfe happened to win the Bart Cummings he would automatically win a place in the Melbourne Cup....and Im sure his price would drop to below $100 in the Cup. Im sure at some stage of the race he will look like the winner. My thinking is, perhaps, he is worth a small cup of coffee bet in the Melbourne Cup at the $201 odds. Then if he happens to win The Bart Cummings you could lay off the bet at the shorter odd and have Wolfe running for you for nothing!!!! Ummmmmm.
19.01.2022 STRADIVARIUS: The Goodwood Cup This will be a race worthwhile watching. It is on Sky Channel very early Wednesday morning ( 31/7/19 Sydney time). Stradivarius... will start the short price favourite to win this race for 3rd time in succession. Many people claim Stradivarius is the best distance horse in Europe at the moment. The race will provide a good guide to these horses that we could see in the 2019 Melbourne Cup. Cross Counter; Dee Ex Bee; Ra Atoll; Southern France. (...and in 2018 there was talk of Stradivarius running in the Melbourne Cup! Who knows?)
