21.01.2022 Last night we initially responded to a structure fire that turned out to be multiple burn offs on a property in Yannathan. Burn offs are only permitted for green waste only and not general waste, especially toxic materials. If you live on a rural property and have green waste that you would like to burn off. Please register the burn off on 1800 668 511 or fill out the online form. Thank you

13.01.2022 A record 51 aircraft will hit Victorian skies to help fight fires and keep communities safe this summer season. The 2020-21 aircraft fleet includes a mix of w...ater bombing aircraft, air supervision and air intelligence-gathering aircraft. Two Large Air Tankers, which can carry up to 15,000 litres of water, foam or retardant, and two 7500-litre Aircranes, will contribute to the 51 aircraft in the core-fleet and provide essential support to other aircraft across the state.
13.01.2022 That’s right, it’s time for daylight savings! Who would’ve thought! So a couple of reminders: 1. Turn your clocks one hour forward before going to bed. 2. Check you smoke alarm! Change the batteries, check that it works! ... Head to the CFA website for all the FAQ’s on preparing for summer.
11.01.2022 The following video is an example of why YOU need to have your wood heater chimney/flue inspected and cleaned yearly! Luckily in this case a chimney sweep/woodh...eater serviceman was passing the home and noticed the fire, allowing it to be extinguished before the home suffered any major damage. In 2017 CFA attended 121 chimney fires which is almost 10% of the preventable house fires CFA attended in Victoria. Many of these caused major damage or loss of the entire home. Chimney fires are caused by the accumulation of creosote. During normal use creosote builds up as a coating and when subjected to the normal heat from a fire it can eventually become thick enough to ignite with a very real potential of starting a fire. The very big risk with these fires is that they normally start in the roof space or wall cavity above smoke alarms, this means they can go undetected until they have grown to be substantial, causing major structural damage, the loss of your home or worse, lives. To prevent chimney fires we recommend all wood heater chimneys and flues are inspected and cleaned every 12 months by qualified personnel according to the manufacturers instructions. Note: Creosote is not only caused by general use, but it can also build up quicker if you are using incorrect fuels, such as green wood or treated timbers. Thanks to Ash from Chimaney Charoo for the video! 09.01.2022 Commemorative $2 coin made to honour firefighters The Royal Australian Mint has today launched a commemorative coloured $2 coin to honour those who battled the ...horrific 2019/20 summer bushfires. Commemorative $2 coin made to honour firefighters The commemorative coin The $2 coin will feature a blaze of orange in the centre, with female and male fireys either side of it, looking ready for action. The Royal Australian Mint created the $2 coin to recognise the determination and commitment of our firefighting communities across Australia in battling the terrible conditions that confronted them. The Mint also announced $125,000 of the proceeds from the sale of the coins will go to fire and emergency service organisations across the country, including CFA. CFA’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Catherine Greaves said CFA is extremely grateful to the Mint for recognising the incredibly important work our members do in protecting lives and property. This coin will reach communities across the country and will highlight the risk our members take each and every day to keep Victorian communities safe, CEO Greaves said. CFA Acting Chief Officer Garry Cook said the Mint’s generous monetary contribution will go towards purchasing and maintaining brigade firefighting equipment. We are always very grateful for any financial contributions made to CFA it allows us to boost our critical firefighting equipment which further increases our ability to protect our community, CO Cook said. The new $2 coin has been made available to the banks for circulation across Australia. A version of the coin will be made available in a packaging card for coin collectors. The Mint will also be hosting a small exhibition over the summer months in Canberra to honour Australian firefighters. There will be a collection of notable objects on display, including these commemorative $2 coins, as well as a number of other medals and coins made by the Mint over the years to honour firefighters. CFA is encouraging its members and the community to try and purchase one of these commemorative firefighter coins as a special memento to hold onto. The timing of the release of the coin is a great reminder to those living in bushfire-prone areas to prepare themselves and their properties for the upcoming fire season.

06.01.2022 Please take a minute to look at the extinguisher chart below. If you have an extinguisher, make sure it is suited for the application. Commercial kitchens should have a wet chemical extinguisher but you can use other types as shown below. Only use a fire blanket if it is large enough to cover the whole fire as it is designed to smother the fire only. Thank you.
