23.01.2022 "Why are so many French kids books about wolves?" "What is it with the French's obsession with wolves?" I have been asked these questions several times since I started working here and my honest answer is: I don't know! It's true though, we have SO MANY books with a wolf as a main character (either a hero or a villain). I had never even noticed it before having to buy English-language books for my own kids. Look at the children section in any bookshop in Melbourne: no wolves. Take one glance at the kids section in a bookshop in France: wolves everywhere! 21.01.2022 "Le jour des Rois" (the Epiphany on January 6th) is fast approaching! On that day in France, people traditionally eat a "galette des rois", a delicious pie made with almond and A LOT of butter! T'choupi and Trotro, the favourite little heroes of all French 2-year-olds, both have a lovely book about this tradition, from the "go under the table and assign the slices" part to the "who almost broke their teeth on the ceramic figurine inside?" part. A great way to introduce young children to this fun (and delicious) celebration! They are currently in stock at the bookshop and on our website (www.languageint.com.au)

20.01.2022 More French Christmas kids books, this time in the fantastic "Sami et Julie" series! This collection has been designed to introduce reading to children, from preschool and all the way through primary. Kindie aged kids can participate in the reading activity by naming the words represented by a picture within the text, while primary aged children can start reading by themselves!

You can make up stories, draw pictures, or build things. And today you're alive. Together, we can run, jump and feel our hearts beating. And we can do that for a very, very long time!" I am in awe at how well this book addresses children's fear and questions about death. It is both reassuring and realistic, which can be difficult with a topic that serious. A very important read. If you want to start reading in Japanese but don't feel confident enough for a full Japanase text, why not try something that has an English version on hand? Cells at Work, Mighty Atom and Your Name are all great titles, fun and accessible! (Although note that Cells at Work has a lot of specialised vocabulary, being about anatomy.) We have found that his crime fiction was a good level for intermediate learners who wanted to start reading novels and who already had a bit of experience using graded readers! The fairly short length and accessible grammar and vocabulary make these crime novels a great introduction to reading "real" French!
