24.01.2022 Langwarrin Community Centre Ladies make Fiddle Mats for Peninsula Health patients! Wendy Jones and Barbara Craig of the Langwarrin Community Centre quilting group, have decided to put their sewing and quilting skills to good use, making Fiddle Mats for the patients of Peninsula Health. You may ask yourself, what is a Fiddle Mat? A Fiddle Mat is used to give comfort and to keep hands busy, for dementia patients and upper limb stroke patients. ... The mats are bright, soft and have different textures of material and other embellishments that are sewn into place to be felt and fiddled with. Fiddle Mats are given to an individual patient to keep, along with the care instructions for each mat. Both Wendy and Barbara wanted to be able to give something back to their communities and have enjoyed using their imaginations to come up with some great designs, that will give hours of pleasure to the lucky recipients. If you would like to know how you can help with the making of these mats, or would like to donate embellishment items or fabric, please contact the Occupational Therapy Dept. at Peninsula Health on 03 9784 8696 or email [email protected]
