19.01.2022 I prefer the original name - Unnamed Brown Diamond. Golden Jubilee Diamond is not as interesting! https://www.thediamondauthority.org/golden-jubilee-diamond/

19.01.2022 A micro mosaic created by one of the artists at the club, such minute and beautiful work. This one reminds me of Gustavo Klimt with the use of deep reds with gold.

18.01.2022 Have you ever walked down reservoir street and wondered what lay behind the walls of the strange yellow terrace emblazoned with a sign that said Lapidary House? Well it houses the lapidary club of NSW and maintains stone cutting equipment for use by its club members. Every weekend it is a hive activity with members working on specimen stone, jewellery pieces or art exhibits. They provide a place to practice for all arts related to stone and an environment of exchange of ski...lls and semi precious gems. The club has produced many talented stone craftsmen over the years and even had to hold an exhibition at the town hall to accommodates the crowds. The fashion for lapidary is not as great as it was in the past but new members are learning the craft and adapting it to new directions in art and design. Its great to find a place so close to home where you can learn so many artisanal skills. The club at 136 reservoir street Surry Hills has a small shop which sells jewellery and specimens and is open to the public from 10 am to 1pm every Saturday.

A couple more pictures! Before and after of the great job done clearing out the new space. We will be able to use this wonderful new space for work with boulder opals, pottery and workshops with visiting experts when we do finally get back to normal. ... Great job Judy and Kristi on doing all this work! Thanks for all you are doing in the background while we wait

13.01.2022 For the new club members who have not been able to get into the club and for those who would like a little refresher. This video slows all the steps from stone selection, using the trim saw, dropping, shaping and polishing. https://youtu.be/y0wH5Vdv9Js

07.01.2022 So I had an awesome day at billabong blue today! The lovely carol showed me their system there so I could dry sieve, Im more used used to working in the wet at Oberon. Theres a big pile of dirt, and you take a bucket which you then process. Everything is really well laid out and easy to use and theres even good advice on how not to do your back in! More to follow on what Ive found when I can get decent pictures.

02.01.2022 Just before it jumped out of the tweezers and escaped! Pretty little zircon at least I think it might be a zircon? Anybody got a way to ID?

02.01.2022 As promised, my finds from Billabong Blue! Its difficult to get a good photo with terrible light lately around Sydney, but there are some beautiful colours, glassy and clear, and a couple of bigger silky/bomby ones. So chuffed with myself and it is so worth it, would definitely recommend going there. Would be perfect for those starting out or on holiday who may not want to commit to big digging.
