25.01.2022 ALISON QUIRKE OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR & OFFICIALS SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD Congratulations to Kylie Brown (Helensvale) who is the recipient of the 2020 Alison Quirke Official of the Year and Elissa Wyatt (Bargara) who is the recipient of the 2020 Officials Special Recognition Award. Kylie Brown from Helensvale Little Athletics made a significant contribution to Little Athletics as an Official in the 2019 / 2020 season. During the past season, Kylie has taken on the role of... Field Referee at all LAQ events in both the throws and jumps disciplines. Always reliable and there from start to finish, Kylie provides a perfect example of what you would like to see in an official. Kylie is very knowledgeable, but also never afraid to question her own decisions or provide answers to difficult questions along with helping less experienced officials learn their craft. Kylie is respected by her peers, has a great rapport with other officials and athletes, and offers mentoring and assistance to new Officials. Congratulations Kylie. Elissa Wyatt from Bargara Little Athletics in the Central North Region has been awarded the new - Officials Special Recognition Award. Elissa is a quiet unassuming official that serves both her Centre, Region and LAQ to the best of her abilities. Operating often in tandem with her husband, Adam, the field arena is in good hands. During the past few seasons Elissa has been keen to expand her knowledge and experience by attending more competitions the best way forward for any aspiring officials. This past Winter and Summer season has seen Elissa demand more roles in our competitions where possible, which is fantastic, given her location to many of the major competitions in Brisbane. Elissas enthusiasm, positive attitude and willingness to help make her a thoroughly deserving official for this award. Congratulations Elissa. Check in tomorrow for the announcement of our Merit Award winners.
25.01.2022 Make sure you tune in this morning to Channel 9’s TODAY to see our athletes at Bracken Ridge LAC with weatherman Tim Davies!
24.01.2022 What would your Centre do with $5,000? Does your Centre need new equipment? Perhaps some new High Jump mats, Javelins or Hurdles? Or do you need to upgrade your line marker or equipment trolleys to make life easier for your volunteers? What about marquees, Tiny Tots equipment, storage containers, laptops, walkie talkies, speakers or first aid equipment? Applications are still open for the Coles Little Athletics Community Fund (Round 5). You have to be in it to win it, just ...like Bargara Little Athletics, who were successful in Round 3 and purchased a starting system, Tiny Tots equipment and training equipment. Don't miss out on your Centre's opportunity to apply for a grant of up to $5,000 for the 2020 / 2021 season. Applications close on Sunday 6th September at 11.59pm. Go to www.coles.com.au/littleathleticsfund #ColesLittleAthletics #CLACF #NewGear

15.01.2022 CENTRE INNOVATION AWARD Congratulations to Deception Bay Little Athletics who are the winners of this inaugural award. Deception Bay Centre continues to strive to discover and implement new ways for recording results for its athletes. They have continued to expand the use of technology on the arena, utilising 13 tablets on the field for results, 3 laptops for track results and WIFI across their entire arena.... This has assisted them to reduce the number of parent helpers required, significantly reduce the time between events being completed and families being able to see results, ability to view results online at the completion of each event in real time and has resulted in the Centre being virtually paperless on a competition night. Deception Bay has also begun a trial process of new athlete registration bibs, incorporating bar codes. This has sped up the manual process of track recording and data entry dramatically, while ensuring accuracy and eliminating mistakes that can often come with manual data entry. Through the introduction of these technologies, they have reduced the amount of time that families are at the Centre on competition nights from 3 hours to under 2 hours for their 400 athletes. Parents have reported how much they love that the Centre has provided the above services and measures so athletes can get their results and seasons bests on the spot. Congratulations Deception Bay, keep up the great work! Be sure to check in tomorrow as we announce our Frank Knight Memorial Coach of the Year.
15.01.2022 LAQ is excited to announce our Award winners for 2020. Over the next five days, we will announce our winners daily on our facebook page. Tomorrow we will announce the winner of our Centre Innovation Award. Stay tuned!

Neil has conducted many school visits on behalf of LAQ, and has been a Manager for LAQ at the National U15 Coaching Camp in Canberra. 12.01.2022 LAQ is sending love to the community of Mungindi. This small rural town is approximately 500km (5.5 hours) South West of Brisbane, and is divided by the Queensland and New South Wales border. Mungindi Little Athletics has been operating in town (on the NSW side) since 2014. The Centre has had many struggles over the years, particularly with drought. Unfortunately, the Centre could not operate this season. Earlier this week, the Mungindi community suffered a terrible fire ...in their main street that destroyed the town's only grocery store, butcher and clothing store. This has caused significant stress to an already suffering community due to drought and COVID-19. Our thoughts are with the Mungindi community and members of our Little Athletics family. Stay strong everyone, our thoughts are with you all = 2gb.com = northerndailyleader.com.au

06.01.2022 LAQ is proud to support Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland (RMHC SEQ) and will be conducting a CHRISTMAS PANTRY DRIVE at our upcoming McDonald’s State Relay Championships in Brisbane. Any donations would be greatly appreciated, but there are some items that are essential. Click on the photo to see their WISHLIST. All you need to do is bring your donated items to the McDonald’s State Relays and leave them in the designated donation tubs at the entry point to... the stadium. Any contribution helps, no matter how big or small. RMHC SEQ provides accommodation and support services for seriously ill or injured children and their families. RMHC SEQ can accommodate up to 137 families each night across their 3 Houses in Brisbane and relies on the generous support of the community to help keep the doors open and by donating essential pantry items to assist families staying with us. Many of the families that stay with RMHC SEQ come from rural areas, often arriving by helicopter, without having time to pack the essential items they need. Having basic pantry items and ready to go food available truly helps the families cope through one of the most difficult times of their lives, helping us make our house a home away from home.
