13.01.2022 My Nocturn body of work creates an enlivening space for contemplation and a resting place for thoughts through its multilayered forms. It explores and discusses the emotional rural landscapes of the Western NSW sheep and wheat belt. The gestural shapes, layers of ink and pastel engage with the sentiments and energy of people on the land. NOCTURN underscores the many facets of the farming community circumstance such as the undercurrents, pressures, negotiation, trade, waiting... game and ‘lay awake at night’ type expectations including its rollercoaster ride of excitement, joy and despair all in unison. The limited earthy palette of Burnt Sienna, Red Oxide, Payne’s Grey, Yellow Oxide and White uncovers this soul-stirring territory. My Ballimore, Over The Grate & Wyanga original artworks now on exhibition in my Balmain Gallery.

Constant access to tubes of vibrant colour had Australian abstract expressionist artist Lara Scolari laying it on thick from a young age, and that generosity is still present in... her work today. All my life I’ve been an artist, says Lara. I grew up happy, always drawing and painting, with paint supplies available all over the house. The daughter of an industrial chemist who worked as a professional colour mixer for fine art supplier, Matisse Derivan, she was always surrounded by tint and texture at home. Her father would bring home the results of his experiments in pigments so Lara and her artist mother could freely experiment with their application. I decided I wanted to paint a mural on my wall when I was 11 and my parents didn’t bat an eyelid. That was the norm. she says. The ability to mix paint liberally informed a richness that Lara now bestows on her subjects. 03.01.2022 My inspiration comes from the energy and emotion of my surrounding landscape. I love walking and exploring Australia’s natural and built up landscapes. I very much try to constantly absorb the essence, form, feeling and palette of the place. I am also very interested in what you cannot see but what is below the surface or within the subconscious of the place. With my artworks, I try to display this through the elements of design Line, form and tone to create a visual image of my responses.

02.01.2022 Artist Statement I am a Contemporary Australian Visual Artist, who lives and works full time on my art making practice within my vibrant light filled studio located in the heart of Sydney’s harbour side village of Balmain. Holding a Masters in Cross Disciplinary Art & Design from the University of New South Wales (MCDArtDes, UNSW) and with many years’ experience working in the Arts and Cultural sector, I express this wealth of knowledge within my arts practice.... Influenced by major artistic figures such as Brett Whiteley, Helen Frankenthaler, John Olsen, Hans Hoffman and Mark Rothko, I am an action/gestural painter and my work is produced in an Abstract Expressionist style that explores developed experimental techniques and processes. Building up each work using a variety of media, I create depth through exquisite transparent layers that reveal hidden dioramas. Featuring organic forms and fluid shapes my works are inspired by memory, meditation, music and the culture and essence of Australia. I continue to explore my theme of visually capturing the unseen energy, movement, life force and emotion beneath the surface - while reflecting the palette of our natural landscape. I am interested in how energy informs the painting and viewing process. My paintings provide a space for you the viewer to engage with this spectrum of energy that then provokes conversation and thought. I hope that when viewing these works of energy, you are free to be transported to another state of mind.
