23.01.2022 My latest painting (and entry in this years Brisbane Portrait Prize). It is titled Rewinding Evolution. My sitter is Professor William Von Hippel, a Professor of Psychology at the University of Queensland. His recent book, The Social Leap, traces our archaeological history to help us understand who we are, where we come from, and what makes us happy. Thankfully, I didnt have to convince him to let me portray him as his cave man self! Rewinding Evolution... oil on linen 100x100cm See more

16.01.2022 Adding a few buildings in the foreground and background...It's important that the buildings in the background appear almost as silhouetted as the bridge, as they are also set against the sky, but detailed enough to separate them... Oh and btw I'm also adding in a few jacaranda's - client's request

16.01.2022 A big thank you to all of you who voted for my painting in the Brisbane Portrait Prize People's Choice Award. The online voting closes midnight Tuesday 8 October, so there's still time! https://www.brisbaneportraitprize.org/lars-vester

15.01.2022 Self isolating in my studio as per normal - although of course there is very little normal about our world right now. We are all feeling the pinch, with many art shows and cultural events being cancelled this year. However, its little use moaning about it as there are a lot of people out there far worse off. Right now its time to spare a thought for the vulnerable in our society, including the elderly, people with underlying health problems, our frontline healthcare workers..., the homeless, small businesses and many others. Lets all try our best to flatten that curve - stay home as much as we can, be kind and generous to one another. Check in with our friends, colleagues, neighbours and loved ones. Thankfully we have the technology that allows us to do that easily. I look forward to when I will be able to exhibit and catch up with everyone again, but in the meantime, Im motivated to continue to provide you with the occasional reprieve from your daily Corona feeds by posting my latest artwork throughout the year. Take care everyone!

08.01.2022 Next step - the background. Im attempting to create a predawn atmosphere - I want the light to be just bright enough to hold a silhouette of the bridge against it. Most of my initial bridge rendering will disappear here, but there is enough darks showing through the layers for me to retrace the structure in more detail later. Stay tuned...
