09.01.2022 What is Gout Gout is a form of arthritis, mostly affecting the big toe. The burning pain comes on all of a sudden, with stiffness and swelling at the joint. Gout is a result of too much uric acid in the blood, which accumulate in various regions of the body as crystalline deposits. These crystals will be a constant source of irritation unless the gout is treated. Leaving gout untreated may be harmful to the surrounding tendons and soft tissues.... Gout typically presents in a middle aged, male with sudden toe pain and associated swelling and redness. The location and severity of this sudden attack, makes diagnosis relatively easy. You are at higher risk of getting gout if you are overweight, heavy alcohol consumption, high meat and fish in the diet and drink a lot of diuretic drinks (tea, coffee, soda’s). Cold laser therapy can assist by reducing the firing and severity of pain receptors and modulate the inflammatory response of gout.
